Details
We're looking for a Senior System Architect in the Platform Engineering department to shape how platform engineering is implemented across Platform Engineering & Operations. Architectural decisions will help hundreds of engineers and application teams deliver secure, reliable, and compliant solutions faster while reducing infrastructure complexity.
The mission is to reduce cognitive overload for application teams by providing intuitive, automated, and well-orchestrated platform capabilities. The department builds and evolves strategic platforms that power the bank's technology landscape, enabling teams to focus on delivering customer value instead of managing infrastructure complexity.
Responsibilities
- Design scalable, secure, and resilient platform solutions that support enterprise-wide adoption.
- Create golden paths: approved, reusable patterns that make it easier for teams to onboard to and consume platforms.
- Drive architectural consistency across public- and private-cloud environments.
- Balance long-term strategic vision with pragmatic implementation approaches.
- Contribute to standards for platform automation, self-service capabilities, integration through APIs, and platform consumption.
- Drive API-first platform design by defining consistent principles for platform interfaces, integration, and consumption.
- Build alignment among enterprise architects, system architects, platform engineers, developers, security specialists, and senior management so architectural decisions can be implemented across the organisation.
- Present architectural visions, roadmaps, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Working Environment
The Platform Engineering department is part of the Platform Engineering & Operations domain and consists of three teams. Together, they make infrastructure platforms easier and faster for application teams to consume. The teams set standards for automation and API-based integration and co-create solutions with other platform teams in areas such as automation, APIs, and AI.
The role involves working with experienced specialists to develop and implement cloud technology. Depending on the initiative, the architect may contribute expertise, act as a sparring partner, or take ownership of specific deliverables.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a System, Solution, or Platform Architect, driving architecture across multiple teams, platforms, or domains, with more than 5 years of experience.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of enterprise-scale environments, including governance, security, compliance, and operational excellence, with more than 5 years of experience.
- Expertise in cloud and infrastructure architectures, including Azure, VMware, and hybrid cloud environments, with more than 10 years of experience.
- Experience with platform engineering and automation, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, orchestration, and self-service platform capabilities, with more than 5 years of experience.
- Broad technical background in software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, reliability, scalability, observability, and resilience patterns, with more than 10 years of experience.
- Interest in emerging technologies such as cloud-native solutions, AI, and digital sovereignty.
Benefits
- Gross monthly salary of €7,048–€10,068 based on a 36-hour work week, including holiday allowance and a flexible benefit budget.
- Excellent pension scheme.
- Flexible working, including working from home in consultation with the team and depending on the role, with an ergonomic home office setup provided.
- Five weeks of vacation per year, supplemented by two mandatory days off, with the option to purchase up to four additional weeks annually.
- Five “Banking for better days” for personal development or volunteer work.
- Development budget of €1,000 per year, which can accumulate up to €3,000.
- Annual public transport pass with free public transportation throughout the Netherlands for business and private use.
