Airbnb is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join the Payments team as a Payments Insights Analytics Lead. This role supports the strategic direction of Airbnb's Payments operations by enabling data-driven decision-making across Payments Platform, Product, and Operations organizations. The position focuses on operational excellence, Host and Guest experience, payment processing, financial risk, and global payments data.
Responsibilities
- Solve complex Payments-domain problems using data, insights, AI/ML models, and experimentation.
- Build and analyze analytical frameworks, statistical models, and experimentation methods to establish causal relationships and drive measurable impact.
- Translate technical analyses and experimental results into compelling narratives, strategic recommendations, and actionable insights for senior leadership and business stakeholders.
- Generate payment reports and analyze payment data for insights and performance evaluation.
- Provide regular updates and reports to management and stakeholders.
- Analyze payment performance and health, triage issues, and recommend solutions and optimizations.
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments evaluating payment strategies, product changes, and process improvements.
- Collaborate on financial risk management, including losses, chargebacks, other cost components, and payment-process automation.
- Optimize the end-to-end payments journey by identifying pain points, friction areas, and improvement opportunities.
- Support Host and Guest advocacy initiatives to improve the payment experience through measurable results.
- Build payment strategies that balance financial risk and experience for different seller segments using advanced analytics and AI/ML techniques.
- Apply knowledge of adjacent payment-risk domains, including trust and safety, identity, fraud, and compliance, to identify systemic patterns and opportunities.
- Monitor payment trends and implement strategies to optimize payment processing.
- Provide guidance to maintain a robust and reliable payments infrastructure.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes in payments.
Requirements
- 8+ years of industry experience in business analytics.
- Degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or Operations Research; a Master's or PhD is a plus.
- Experience supporting Payments teams or working closely with payments organizations.
- Exposure to multiple payment-risk domains, including trust and safety, identity verification, fraud prevention, chargebacks, regulatory compliance, and financial risk management.
- Expert SQL skills.
- Expert proficiency in at least one programming language for data analysis, such as Python or R.
- Experience with non-experimental causal inference, experimentation, and machine learning techniques, ideally in a multi-sided platform environment.
- Working knowledge of schema design and high-dimensional data modeling.
- Experience with ETL frameworks such as Airflow.
- Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to distill model outputs, experimental results, and complex data analyses into clear, actionable insights.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous, fast-growth, and complex environments and propose solutions with minimal planning, direction, and supervision.
Location and Work Policy
This position is US remote eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
Compensation
The base pay range is $164,000–$191,000 USD per year. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
