Details

This full-stack software engineering role is focused on building user-facing AI products, including Search, Comet, and Computer. Product Engineering owns these experiences end to end, from the user interface through search and model calls, supporting approximately 200 million queries per day and a 200 billion-plus URL index.

The role is intended for engineers with at least one year of industry software engineering experience. New graduates and current students should apply through school-specific campus links instead.

Responsibilities

Own a user-facing surface end to end, including interaction design, frontend development, application logic, APIs, data models, and the search or model calls behind them.
Ship continuously to production; new engineers typically have code in front of users during their first week.
Use AI agents and coding models as primary development tools while applying sound judgment to evaluate their output.
Turn ambiguous product ideas into working prototypes and use real usage data and evaluations to determine what should move forward.
Improve reliability, latency, and implementation quality for owned product surfaces.
Work directly with designers, product managers, and research engineers.

Requirements

At least one year of professional software engineering experience, or a strong internship track record involving production code at scale.
Strong proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Python or Go.
Practical experience with services, APIs, and relational data modeling.
Frontend development experience with React and TypeScript.
Evidence of building and shipping software, such as production work, side projects with actual users, open-source contributions, hackathon projects, or research converted into working software.
Comfort with ambiguity and an ability to build incrementally without waiting for a complete specification.
Hands-on experience with AI products and an understanding of their limitations and product implications.

Nice to Have

Experience with React, Next.js, Python, Go, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, or AWS. Knowledge of the full stack is not required on the first day.
Experience building on top of large language models, including AI orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, agents, or tool use.
Strong product judgment and the ability to identify and improve interface quality.
A public body of work, such as GitHub projects, a technical blog, or a testable demo.
