Details

The legal industry team works with law firms, in-house legal departments, legal technology companies, and other members of the legal ecosystem to understand how AI can support serious professional work. The team collaborates across Product, Research, Engineering, Design, Go-to-Market, Partnerships, Safety, Security, and Legal.

The goal is to help customers and partners use OpenAI's capabilities in ways that are useful, trustworthy, and complementary to the products, expertise, and relationships that already serve the legal field.

Responsibilities

  • Turn customer, partner, market, and model evidence into a clear product strategy and roadmap for OpenAI's work with the legal industry, including what to build, what not to build, and where ecosystem partners should lead.
  • Define requirements and take products from early concept through real-world use and iteration.
  • Lead execution across Research, Engineering, Design, Safety, Security, FDE, Go-to-Market, and Partnerships.
  • Resolve ambiguity, surface tradeoffs, inspect outputs, and close the detailed loops required to ship trustworthy products.
  • Spend time with customers and partners and work closely with researchers, engineers, designers, and operators.

Requirements

  • Experience personally building and shipping zero-to-one enterprise, developer, or AI products.
  • Ability to stay close to users, product behavior, and the details that determine whether a product works.
  • Strong product judgment and technical curiosity.
  • Ability to reason from model and evaluation evidence and distinguish model, data, workflow, trust, and delivery problems.
  • Ability to change direction when the facts change.
  • Ability to build credibility with demanding practitioners and partners.
  • Ability to collaborate with low ego across teams without direct management authority.
  • Ability to bring clarity, pace, and calm to complex, fast-moving work.
  • Legal or regulated-industry experience is helpful, but a J.D. is not required.

Work Arrangement

This role is based in San Francisco, California, and uses a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week.

Benefits

  • Equity, performance-related bonuses for eligible employees, and competitive benefits.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Pre-tax accounts for health, dependent care, and commuter expenses.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Paid parental, medical, and caregiver leave.
  • Paid time off, company holidays, office closures, and paid sick or safe time.
  • Mental health and wellness support.
  • Employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
  • Daily meals in offices and eligible meal delivery credits.
  • Relocation support for eligible employees.
