Details

Airbnb.org operates like a small startup inside Airbnb. The data team is lean, the problems are new, and there is no established playbook for most of the work. The Senior Analytics Engineer will build the data foundation for Airbnb.org, including data models, metrics, dashboards, reporting, analysis, experimentation, and reliable data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and launch efficient, reliable, and maintainable data models and pipelines that power reporting, analysis, and experimentation in partnership with Data Engineering.
  • Design, define, and implement metrics and dimensions for Airbnb.org, and document them clearly so they are trusted and used consistently across teams.
  • Own data quality for tables and pipelines by implementing testing, auditing, and validation; responding to data incidents; and following through on corrective actions.
  • Identify and improve or deprecate low-quality or duplicative data assets, and plan quality improvements into the team roadmap.
  • Design and develop dashboards and self-service data products that make data discoverable, trusted, and easy to consume.
  • Write clear technical designs describing benefits, risks, and tradeoffs; seek and incorporate peer feedback; and provide constructive input on designs and code.
  • Understand stakeholder needs across Marketing, Fundraising, Programs, Product, Data Science, and Engineering, and prioritize work in alignment with Airbnb.org's goals.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with fellow data practitioners.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business questions into well-defined metrics and data products.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience owning major data projects end to end, including projects that began with loosely defined requirements, from scoping and design through delivery.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience optimizing queries on distributed data processing systems such as Spark, Presto, or Hive.
  • Solid experience with dimensional data modeling, schema design, and metric definition.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language for data work, such as Python.
  • Experience with an ETL or orchestration framework such as Airflow.
  • Ability to communicate technical solutions and tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical partners and adapt to competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments.
  • Passion for high data quality, attention to detail, and ownership of system reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minerva skills.
  • Tableau skills.
  • An eye for design when working with dashboards and visualization tools.
