Senior Partnership Operations Automation Engineer

Details

This senior contractor role supports Booking.com's Flights division and its strategic partnership with Etraveli Group. The role will build operational tooling and automation to improve partnership management across Jira, Confluence, Google Workspace, Slack, dashboards, and LLM APIs.

The engagement is for contingent workers and runs for three months, from October 1 through December 31, 2026. The contractor will work as an autonomous individual contributor embedded in a non-technical partnership team, translating business requirements into maintainable technical solutions.

Responsibilities

Discovery and Process Audit

• Observe how the Strategic Partnership Management Office manages the partnership day to day.
• Attend partnership meetings and review escalation flows across more than 40 joint Slack channels.
• Document workflows, information flows, bottlenecks, and manual effort.
• Conduct stakeholder interviews and audit existing Google Sheets, Slack structures, dashboards, and automation.
• Produce a discovery report with findings, confirmed deliverables, and an execution plan.

Jira and Partnership Operations Foundation

• Design and configure a Jira project for action tracking, escalations, and dependency management.
• Configure workflows, custom fields, dashboards, and automation rules.
• Implement cross-instance linking between Booking.com's Jira and Etraveli's Jira while maintaining internal-only and shared visibility boundaries.
• Migrate action tracking from Google Sheets to Jira with deadline flagging and status notifications.
• Create operational, leadership, and workstream-specific views.

KPI Dashboard

• Build a shareable dashboard covering delivery reliability, escalation volume and resolution, SLA compliance, and dependency tracking.
• Pull data from Google Sheets, Slack, Jira, and PDF reports.
• Provide internal and partner-facing versions with suitable data boundaries.

Escalation Analytics and Monitoring MVP

• Build monitoring across more than 40 joint Slack channels.
• Detect and classify technical, commercial, customer service, content, and financial issues by severity.
• Implement configurable keyword and pattern detection for outages, impact mentions, spikes, and blocking issues.
• Make monitored channels, keywords, and severity thresholds editable through Google Sheets without code changes.
• Use LLM APIs through Booking.com's GenAI Gateway, including Claude and Gemini, for classification and summarisation.
• Deliver monitoring, alerting, and weekly summaries.

SteerCo Report Assembly MVP

• Build a workflow that pre-populates SteerCo and QBR templates from dashboards, trackers, and Slack monitoring.
• Collect highlights and lowlights from partnership channels since the previous report.
• Generate a checklist identifying missing contributions.
• Make report templates and data sources configurable through Google Sheets.

Documentation and Handover

• Create step-by-step guides for common team changes, including adding Slack channels, KPIs, Jira workflows, alert thresholds, and report templates.
• Add a CLAUDE.md file to every code repository documenting structure, dependencies, key files, and modification patterns.
• Document configuration settings and architecture.
• Store handover documentation, runbooks, and architecture documentation in Confluence.
• Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions and provide an evolution roadmap with effort estimates.

Requirements

Must Have

• Process discovery and business analysis experience, including workflow mapping and automation planning.
• Jira and Confluence administration, including Jira project setup, workflow design, custom fields, dashboards, automation rules, and documentation.
• Experience configuring Jira for cross-company or partner collaboration is strongly preferred.
• Slack API development, including bots, channel monitoring, message parsing, and automated notifications.
• Google Workspace integration using Google Sheets, Docs, Slides, Calendar APIs, and/or Google Apps Script.
• Solid Python or JavaScript/TypeScript scripting and integration development skills.
• Practical LLM or generative AI application development experience using Claude, Gemini, or similar APIs for classification, summarisation, and content extraction.
• Ability to build clean, modular, well-documented code that non-engineers can maintain with AI coding assistants.

Nice to Have

• Cross-instance Jira integration experience, including Backbone Issue Sync, Exalate, or Getint.
• Experience with operational dashboards in Google Sheets, Looker Studio, or similar tools.
• Prompt engineering experience for reliable LLM-based classification and extraction.
• Experience with Slack Bolt or similar Slack application frameworks.
• Data migration experience, especially moving operational data from Google Sheets to Jira while preserving history and relationships.
• Experience with Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI coding assistants.
• Strategic partnership, alliance management, or business operations experience.
• Experience working in large-platform environments.

• Seniority: Senior, with 5 or more years of relevant experience in business automation, operations tooling, or technical consulting.

• Stakeholder management: Able to work with Booking.com partnership leaders and managers, as well as Etraveli counterparts, in a cross-company environment.

Compensation

• Independent contractor pay rate: EUR 40–95 per hour.
• Hours: 40 hours per week.
• Timeline: October 1–December 31, 2026.
