Airbnb is seeking a Senior Policy Economist within its Data Science organization to support the Policy & Communications team with data-driven analysis and engagement. The role focuses on regulatory, housing, tourism, economic development, and tax topics, translating complex analyses into accessible resources for internal and external audiences.

Responsibilities

Conduct regulatory and economic impact modeling and provide guidance to policy team members.
Use AI/ML and econometric models to derive insights from legislation and other data sources.
Collaborate with academics and experts on policy research topics.
Perform mapping and spatial analysis of data.
Create visualizations to communicate key concepts.
Convert insights into data journalism for the communications team.
Build prototypes, dashboards, and other tools to scale data usage across the organization.
Work with cross-functional partners in policy and communications, business, legal, finance, and data science.
Engage with external experts, academics, policymakers, and media.
Operate independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external partners.

Requirements

Advanced degree in a quantitative field.
At least 4 years of experience in data modeling and analysis, including experience leveraging AI.
At least 5 years of industry experience with a bachelor's or master's degree, or at least 2 years of experience with a PhD.
Ability to perform complex strategic analysis.
Excellent project management, communication, and teamwork skills.
Experience with causal inference techniques, including econometric regressions and quasi-experimental techniques.
Knowledge of R or Python, SQL, data visualization, and GIS.
Exposure to policy and economics or adjacent domains.

Location

This position is US remote eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. The employee must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
