Airbnb’s Community Support team delivers personalized human support and customer service experiences for hosts and guests. As a Data Scientist working on Algorithms in Community Support, you will collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and operations agents to build personalized, fair, and exceptional experiences using advanced LLM and machine learning models.

Responsibilities

• Automate the LLM evaluation process using advanced techniques with high efficiency and quality.
• Scale the curation of high-quality synthetic datasets across various Community Support domains for training and evaluating LLMs.
• Build LLM and machine learning models to understand customer issues from diverse datasets and identify failure modes and opportunities for improvement.
• Build personalization models to provide differentiated experiences and maximize business impact.
• Identify high-impact business opportunities through data exploration and model prototyping, and translate business problems into scientific formulations.
• Analyze structured and unstructured data to uncover insights and develop actionable proposals.
• Build and deploy production LLM and machine learning models that contribute to data-driven products.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, Operations, and Analytics teams.
• Communicate findings to leaders and stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making.
• Help scale and evolve data science capabilities within the domain.

Requirements

• 2+ years of relevant industry experience, such as experience as a data or machine learning scientist, tech lead, or junior faculty member.
• Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field.
• State-of-the-art knowledge of AI and machine learning models.
• Strong fluency in Python or R and SQL.
• Causal inference skills are a plus.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with audiences of varying technical levels.
• Ability to translate complex findings and results into compelling narratives.
• Excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Product-oriented mindset with the ability to apply conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions that consider user experience.

Location

This position is remote-eligible in the United States. You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager.
