Details

Airbnb's Community Support (CS) team delivers personalized human support for hosts and guests. As a Data Scientist on Algorithms in CS, you'll collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers and operations to enable personalized, fair and exceptional experiences using advanced LLM/ML modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Implement advanced techniques to automate LLM evaluation processes with high efficiency and quality.
  • Scale high-quality synthetic dataset curation across various CS domains for training and evaluating LLMs.
  • Build LLM/ML models to understand customer issues from diverse datasets and identify failure modes and improvement opportunities.
  • Build personalization models to offer differentiated experiences and maximize business impact.
  • Discover high-impact business opportunities through data exploration and model prototyping; translate business problems into scientific formulations.
  • Analyze structured and unstructured data to uncover insights and craft actionable proposals that shape strategy.
  • Build and deploy production LLM/ML models that contribute to data-driven product launches and operational optimizations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Engineering, Operations, and Analytics and communicate findings to stakeholders and leaders.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience (e.g., data/ML scientist, tech lead, junior faculty) and a Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field.
  • State-of-the-art knowledge of AI/ML models, with specific experience applying LLMs in production contexts.
  • Strong fluency in Python and/or R, and SQL.
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data; ability to prototype models and translate results into product impact.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences; strong project management and collaboration skills.
  • Product-oriented mindset with the ability to apply conceptual and innovative thinking, and a bias toward action.
  • Observational causal inference skills are a plus.

Location

  • US - Remote Eligible. Candidates must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed with the manager.

Benefits and Compensation

  • Base pay range: $151,000—$175,000 USD (actual base pay depends on experience, skills, market factors).
  • Role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
