Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”

The Coinbase Advisor team is building an RIA-licensed agentic trading system: an AI advisor inside the Coinbase app that can have natural conversations about users’ portfolios, provide personalized financial advice, and execute trades on their behalf. This role is primarily backend on a full-stack team and focuses on services that make agentic trading fast, clear, and trustworthy for millions of customers.

Responsibilities

Own backend services powering Coinbase Advisor and Strategies, from technical design through launch and ongoing operation.
Build integrations with Coinbase trading APIs so agent recommendations and user-configured strategies translate into correct, auditable execution.
Develop the agentic harness, including tool calling, orchestration, persistent state, and recovery from failed or partially completed actions.
Shape agent behavior through prompt engineering, evaluations, and conversation analysis, partnering with the registered investment adviser on changes to financial advice.
Improve service reliability, latency, observability, and execution safety, including retry behavior and safeguards against duplicate actions.
Partner with frontend engineering, product, design, trading infrastructure, and legal and compliance teams to ship customer-facing capabilities within regulatory guardrails.

Requirements

5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep backend expertise and a track record of shipping and operating production services.
Strong experience with API design, distributed systems, data modeling, testing, and debugging production failures.
Proficiency in Go or demonstrated ability to learn it quickly.
Experience building production LLM or agentic systems, including tool calling, orchestration, or evaluation.
Ability to take ambiguous projects from zero to production with minimal oversight and sound product and technical judgment.
Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintain human oversight, and deliver business-ready outputs that improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

Annual base salary: $186,065–$218,900 USD, varying by location.
Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
