Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join the Coinbase One team within the Consumer & Business group. Coinbase One is a subscription membership product offering premium benefits to paying members. The role will own backend systems that power the membership lifecycle, including sign-up, payment processing, benefit delivery, and targeted promotions for millions of customers.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

Own the design, development, and operation of backend services powering the Coinbase One membership lifecycle, including sign-up flows, subscription management, and recurring payment processing.
Build scalable platform capabilities for targeted benefit delivery, promotional incentives, and personalized membership experiences across the Coinbase retail application.
Partner with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to scope, ship, and iterate on customer-facing membership features from concept through production.
Drive backend architecture decisions for the Coinbase One product area, establishing patterns for reliability, extensibility, and integration with broader Coinbase platform services.
Improve service reliability, observability, and performance across the Coinbase One backend stack, proactively identifying and resolving production issues.

Requirements

5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and operating production services at scale.
Experience building subscription, payments, or commerce systems, including recurring billing, entitlements, or promotional logic.
Proficiency in Go or a similar backend systems language such as Java, C++, or Rust, with the ability to adapt to a Go-centric codebase.
Experience designing and maintaining APIs and distributed systems that integrate across web and mobile product surfaces.
Ability to take ambiguous projects from scoping through production with minimal oversight, including cross-functional collaboration with product and design partners.
Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

Annual base salary: $186,065–$218,900 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
