Details
The Safety Systems team works to ensure the safety, robustness, and reliability of AI models and their real-world deployment. The team addresses emerging safety issues and develops fundamental solutions for the safe deployment of advanced models and future AGI.
At OpenAI, this role will help build trust and safety capabilities. You will work with engineering teams to design and implement systems that detect and prevent abuse, promote user safety, and reduce risk across the platform.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain anti-abuse and content moderation infrastructure to protect OpenAI and its end users from unwanted behavior.
- Work with engineers and researchers to apply industry-standard and novel AI techniques to measure, monitor, and improve AI models' alignment with human values.
- Diagnose and remediate active platform incidents.
- Build tooling and infrastructure that address the root causes of system failures.
Requirements
- Experience building and operating production services in a high-growth, rapidly scaling environment.
- Ability to debug live issues and restore systems quickly.
- Experience with content safety, fraud, or abuse, or strong motivation to work on present-day AI safety.
- Experience with Python or modern programming languages such as C++, Rust, or Go, and the ability to quickly become productive with Python.
- Understanding of the trade-offs between capabilities and risks, with the ability to navigate them when safely deploying novel products and features.
- Ability to critically assess risks of new products or features and devise innovative mitigations without harming the product experience.
- Pragmatic approach to deciding when to implement a quick, good-enough fix and when to invest in a robust, lasting solution.
- Strong project management skills, self-direction, and the ability to remove roadblocks and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance.
- Experience deploying classifiers or machine learning models, or enthusiasm for learning about modern ML infrastructure.
