The Content Design team is seeking a Content Designer with deep expertise in prompt engineering and AI evaluation, along with strong content design craft and product judgment. The role combines editorial judgment, product strategy, and technical implementation to build prompts, evaluations, and tools that create and improve content and messaging at scale.

The primary focus is on experiences that help people discover ChatGPT’s value, get started, and remain engaged, including notifications. The role is based in San Francisco, California, and follows a hybrid work model with three days in the office per week.

Responsibilities

• Shape content strategy for experiences that help people discover ChatGPT’s value, get started, and return to meaningful uses of the product.
• Design, implement, and iterate on prompt frameworks that guide AI-generated product content and messaging.
• Define content quality standards and build evaluation systems, datasets, and reviewer guidance combining human judgment with automated assessments.
• Shape tools and workflows for generating, reviewing, and improving content across experiments and product experiences.
• Analyze model outputs and evaluation results to diagnose problems and improve content systems as models, products, and user needs evolve.
• Partner with product, engineering, design, research, and data science teams to connect content quality with user understanding, trust, engagement, and retention.
• Document reusable approaches and coach other Content Designers in developing prompts, defining evaluation criteria, and interpreting results.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in content design, content engineering, or a related discipline, with a track record of delivering work across complex product areas.
• Hands-on experience developing prompts for shipped generative AI experiences and understanding model capabilities, limitations, and failure patterns.
• Experience designing and implementing content evaluation frameworks and validating their reliability in assessing quality.
• Hands-on experience using code and APIs to build repeatable generation and evaluation workflows, with the ability to partner with Engineering to integrate them into production.
• Strong writing, editorial judgment, and content strategy skills applicable across product experiences.
• Ability to turn qualitative and quantitative evidence into clear recommendations and demonstrate improvements in content quality, team effectiveness, or product outcomes.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and nontechnical teams while bringing structure and clarity to ambiguous problems and evolving requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary of $287,000–$318,000 per year.
