Software Development @ 3 TypeScript @ 6 React @ 6 UI/UX @ 6Details
We’re building the next generation of OpenAI’s internal developer experience, whether engineers are working human-only, agent-only, or fully hybrid. As AI changes how software gets written, reviewed, tested, and shipped, this team is reimagining best practices in the software development lifecycle and integrating development infrastructure and tooling into a seamless yet powerful offering.
This role sits at the intersection of product design, engineering craft, and real-world scale. The team is looking for a product-minded engineer who can own end-to-end experiences across multiple UI/UX surfaces in the internal tooling ecosystem, with a strong taste for interaction design and a keen eye for developer needs.
Responsibilities
- Own major product areas end-to-end: problem discovery, UX iteration, technical design, implementation, rollout, and ongoing improvements.
- Partner closely with engineers and internal stakeholders to understand pain points and translate them into simple, effective UI/UX for core developer workflows.
- Integrate and iterate on AI-empowered developer experience (DevEx) that balances capability versus simplicity and control.
- Set a high bar for performance, reliability, and usability, providing a world-class product experience for every engineer at OpenAI.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional engineering experience (excluding internships) building user-facing products.
- Strong frontend engineer or full-stack engineer with deep UI instincts and modern web fundamentals (explicitly mentions TypeScript and React, component design, and state management).
- Experience building products in zero-to-one environments or owning a product surface with ambiguous requirements and high urgency.
- Experience building internal tools, enterprise tools, or workflow-heavy products for technical users.
- Product-minded approach with attention to interaction design and developer workflows.
Benefits
- Base pay range listed: $210K–$490K (offers equity). Base pay may vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
- In addition to salary, total compensation includes equity and performance-related bonuses for eligible employees.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
- Pre-tax accounts for Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, and commuter expenses.
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
- Paid parental leave (up to 24 weeks for birth parents and 20 weeks for non-birthing parents), plus paid medical and caregiver leave (up to 8 weeks).
- Paid time off: flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees.
- 13+ paid company holidays and multiple company office closures throughout the year, plus paid sick or safe time as required by law.
- Mental health and wellness support; employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
- Annual learning and development stipend; daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
- Relocation support for eligible employees.
- Additional taxable fringe benefits (charitable donation matching, wellness stipends) may be provided.
