About proficiency levels:
- 1-2 — basic awareness. Minimal hands-on experience, and a rudimentary understanding of the technology's purpose;
- 3-6 — daily use. Comfortable and regular usage, capable of handling common tasks and challenges related to the technology;
- 7-9 — you are an expert, you can teach others, you know all the pitfalls and tricks;
- 10 — exceptional knowledge, comprehensive understanding, and adeptness in all aspects of the technology, including advanced problem-solving. Think twice before claiming or demanding such level.

Details
As a Senior Forward Deploy Engineer, you will work at the intersection of SentinelOne customers and its product engineering organization. You will split your time between customer engineering teams and SentinelOne codebases, shipping integrations, fixes, and platform improvements required for customer deployments. The role spans multiple products and services, including data pipelines, the Singularity Data Lake, and EventDB, a highly scalable columnar database that ingests petabytes of data per day.
You will work closely with customers to understand their environments, translate ambiguous requirements into shipped solutions, and build integrations, customizations, and upstream product contributions that deliver business value.
Responsibilities
- Develop full-stack software, primarily using React and Java, based on customer requirements and product gaps.
- Write robust tests, resolve bugs, and maintain high standards for code security and quality.
- Work across multiple codebases, including escalated issues spanning multiple products.
- Partner with customers and field teams to understand environments, goals, and constraints.
- Translate ambiguous or contradictory requests into clear technical strategies.
- Bring customer insights into product and engineering planning.
- Occasionally support pre-sales scoping by providing early engineering input.
- Design and deliver integrations connecting SentinelOne products with customer environments.
- Work alongside customer engineers to shape solutions and provide knowledge transfer.
- Produce runbooks, integration documentation, and executive-level technical communications.
- Contribute fixes and improvements to the core platform when required for customer success.
- Partner with platform teams to ensure upstream contributions are reviewed and supported long term.
- Build tooling that codifies repeatable patterns and scales the Forward Deploy function.
- Architect end-to-end solutions for complex problems spanning multiple codebases and teams.
- Document trade-offs and implementation details and review technical specifications.
- Conduct code reviews focused on quality, security, and efficiency.
- Respond promptly to customer and internal escalations; there is no regular on-call rotation.
- Support colleagues, provide constructive feedback, and participate in team syncs and Slack standups.
Requirements
- Solid computer science background and 4+ years of engineering experience covering both backend and frontend development.
- Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems or data-intensive services.
- Track record of leading substantial work end to end under ambiguity and with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience working directly with customers or senior stakeholders to shape technical solutions.
- Deep proficiency in at least one production programming language, with Java strongly preferred and 3+ years of experience recommended.
- Working comfort with at least one additional programming language.
- Ability to write concise, readable, and elegant code.
- Willingness and ability to learn new tools and codebases as needed.
- Likely experience with or willingness to work with modern Java, React, TypeScript, Kafka, Redis, GraphQL, Node.js, and SentinelOne’s platform.
- Familiarity with modern Java features such as lambdas and composition-oriented design.
- Understanding of CAP theorem considerations and data-structure trade-offs.
- Cybersecurity domain experience is strongly preferred, including SIEM, EDR/XDR, log pipelines, detection engineering, or threat hunting.
- Ability to become productive quickly in unfamiliar codebases.
- Ability to reframe vague customer requests as well-defined technical problems.
- Ability to communicate precisely with engineers, customers, executives, sales, and product teams.
- Strong written communication skills for tickets, design documents, customer runbooks, and executive briefings.
- Commitment to mentorship and helping other engineers grow.
Benefits
