We’re hiring software engineers to make the Workload team more productive. The Workload team maintains the core components of OpenAI’s training and inference frameworks and helps execute frontier experiments.

Responsibilities

• Optimize the development workflows of engineers working with OpenAI’s core training and inference frameworks.
• Work within various Workload teams to address their specific needs and collaborate with centralized teams that own aspects of developer experience.
• Optimize iteration speed broadly and for specific teams, in particular by optimizing CI.
• Improve reliability by driving testing strategy for particular components.
• Address the long tail of tasks required to build libraries and systems that delight researchers.

Requirements

• A strong focus on developer experience and developer workflows.
• Experience working with Python (the role states: “You like working with Python”).
• Experience or interest in improving CI and iteration speed for engineering teams.
• Experience driving testing strategy and improving reliability of components.
• Practical, pragmatic mindset: able to choose the right problems to solve and move work end-to-end.
• Collaborative, user-focused approach: co-design solutions by understanding both users and systems.
