Details

Coinbase is hiring a Staff Analytics Engineer to lead the data foundations for the Compliance Data team within the Platform organization. The team owns the Compliance Reporting Data Platform, Coinbase's canonical source of truth for user, transaction, and compliance data. Every regulatory report at Coinbase depends on this platform.

The role will define the technical direction for modeling, validating, and certifying compliance data at scale, ensuring the foundations remain reliable as products, entities, and regulatory requirements evolve. The position is remote-first, with quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

  • Own the systems, architecture, technical strategy, and roadmap for Compliance Data, including data models, pipelines, quality frameworks, and certification processes.
  • Build production-grade solutions, data models, and pipelines covering user, transaction, and compliance data across retail and institutional product lines.
  • Design systems for durability, auditability, and consumption by analysts and AI agents.
  • Establish data contracts, validation frameworks, monitoring, and reconciliation logic to detect issues before they reach downstream reports or regulatory filings.
  • Partner with upstream engineering teams, Compliance leadership, and downstream consumers to close data gaps, proactively absorb product changes, and define standards for trustworthy, self-service compliance data.
  • Lead the team's response to regulatory exams, audits, and time-sensitive data requests, ensuring accuracy and timeliness under pressure.
  • Build repeatable processes that reduce future manual effort.
  • Shape engineering standards and technical culture through architectural decisions, code reviews, mentorship, and documented infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or data-intensive technical roles, with demonstrated technical leadership across teams or domains.
  • Expert-level SQL and Python proficiency applied to production pipeline development, complex transformations, data quality automation, and orchestration frameworks such as dbt or Airflow.
  • Experience designing and owning systems and canonical or certified data models serving multiple downstream teams.
  • Deep fluency in dimensional modeling, data contracts, and modern warehouse architecture, including Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Proven ability to lead under regulatory pressure, including delivering accurate data for examinations, audits, or filings where errors have material consequences.
  • Experience driving technical direction and influencing engineering practices beyond an immediate team.
  • Ability to scope complex projects, make independent architectural decisions, and mentor other engineers.
  • Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

Annual base salary ranges from $207,485 to $244,100 USD, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.

Candidates may submit a maximum of three applications within a six-month period. Coinbase is an Equal Opportunity Employer. US applicants are subject to applicable employee rights, E-Verify, privacy, and arbitration notices. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request.
