Details

Coinbase is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Wallets, Liquidity & Bridging team within the Platform organization. The team builds and operates wallet systems, liquidity orchestration, and bridging infrastructure that enable Coinbase to move crypto assets across more than 55 blockchain protocols for millions of users. The role owns the architecture and technical direction of systems that construct, sign, broadcast, and reconcile on-chain transactions with a focus on speed, reliability, and security.

Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only, company. Employees are expected to meet quarterly for in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for wallet, liquidity, and bridging systems, defining how the platforms evolve to support new chains, assets, and product use cases at scale.
  • Build and evolve distributed backend systems in Go that orchestrate liquidity movements, cross-chain bridging, and transaction lifecycle management across custodial and non-custodial flows.
  • Drive service-oriented architecture improvements by decomposing legacy systems into modular, reusable platform services that reduce complexity and accelerate integration for downstream product teams.
  • Partner with Trading, Custody, Staking, and cross-platform engineering teams to define integration contracts, resolve cross-team dependencies, and align wallet infrastructure with company-wide architectural standards.
  • Lead reliability and operational excellence for wallet services, including observability, incident response, and systemic improvements that prevent recurring failures across Tier-0 systems.
  • Shape engineering standards and technical culture across the team and broader Blockchain Platform organization through design reviews, architectural RFCs, and mentoring engineers on best practices.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Go and designing large-scale, service-oriented distributed systems.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting and operating production backend services that handle high-throughput transaction volumes with strict correctness and reliability requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with blockchain technologies, including transaction construction, signing, broadcasting, key management, or cross-chain bridging across protocols such as Ethereum, Bitcoin, or Solana.
  • Proven experience decomposing monolithic systems into scalable microservices or platform primitives used by multiple teams.
  • A track record of influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority, including driving architectural decisions, leading cross-team initiatives, and representing an area in organization-level forums.
  • Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

The annual base salary range is $218,025–$256,500 USD, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
