Details

Coinbase is hiring Staff Software Engineers across several teams within the Developer Infrastructure group. The role focuses on the tools and systems that Coinbase engineers depend on to build and ship software, including scalable CI and build infrastructure and deployment orchestration. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only, company, with quarterly in-person working sessions called “surges.”

Responsibilities

  • Own core developer infrastructure platforms, including CI and build systems and deployment orchestration, across the full lifecycle from design through production operation.
  • Identify high-leverage problems, turn ambiguous challenges into concrete technical roadmaps, and drive alignment across dependent teams.
  • Improve build and CI wall time, deployment speed and safety, and developer feedback latency.
  • Lead strategic, cross-cutting initiatives end to end, including large-scale platform migrations across multiple teams.
  • Raise the reliability bar for developer infrastructure by owning SLOs, observability, and on-call processes.
  • Design systems that recover quickly and avoid cascading into company-wide incidents.
  • Partner with engineering customers, engineering managers, and leadership to shape technical strategy and drive organization-wide adoption.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, pairing, and shared ownership.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building and operating production distributed systems.
  • Hands-on proficiency in Go or a comparable systems language.
  • Direct experience with CI/CD, build systems, or deployment tooling.
  • Experience designing and shipping high-impact backend or platform systems used by many engineers and services, from ambiguous problem statements through long-term production operation.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on cross-team initiatives, including setting architectural direction, driving organization-wide alignment, and making decisions that hold up at scale.
  • Deep operational expertise with production systems where downtime has a broad impact, including reliability, observability, and fast recovery.
  • Ability to drive alignment on ambiguous, cross-functional problems and raise the technical bar through mentorship, design reviews, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to use generative AI responsibly with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

  • Annual base salary: $218,025–$256,500 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
  • Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.

Additional Information

  • Candidates may submit a maximum of three applications within a six-month period.
  • Coinbase is an equal opportunity employer.
  • Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities.
