Grafana Labs is the company behind the open observability cloud. Grafana Cloud is a fully managed observability platform built for scale. The Grafana Alerting squad operates at the core of the Grafana open-source project and its mission is to provide deep capabilities for users to manage alerts. This is a remote opportunity and Grafana Labs is interested in applications from Ireland.
The domain includes building and operating distributed systems for alert ingestion, evaluation, and delivery at scale, unifying alerting behavior across Grafana and Prometheus, and ensuring reliability and performance for critical alerting infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Influence roadmap and define career objectives.
- Work with the team to deliver new features and iterate based on results.
- Drive projects from ideation through to production and operations.
- Contribute to open-source projects beyond the immediate team scope.
- Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning reliability, performance, and availability.
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotations and take ownership of running services.
- Mentor and support other team members; participate in design discussions and team collaboration.
- Learn and gain a deeper understanding of the cloud product and the codebase of a large distributed system.
Requirements / What Makes You a Great Fit

- Strong collaboration and communication skills for a fully remote team.
- Solid experience with at least one programming language. Grafana uses Go, but familiarity with Python, Java, C++, Rust or similar translates well.
- Some experience delivering projects from requirements gathering through shipping to customers.
- Some experience developing software that runs in the Cloud or experience with systems engineering.
- Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software that is easily maintained by others.
Example projects and domain context
- Building distributed systems to scale alert ingestion and delivery of Prometheus-based alerts.
- Unifying alert setup and delivery to work consistently for Grafana and Prometheus-based alerts.
- Scaling alert evaluation of Grafana-managed alerts (examples include reaching 500+ evaluations per second in production).
Compensation & Rewards
- In Ireland, the compensation range for this role is EUR 117,600 - EUR 141,120.
- All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
- Compensation ranges are country specific; recruiters will discuss market-defined pay ranges for other locations.
