Details

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the DataViz squad within the Grafana Frontend group. The team builds and evolves Grafana visualizations that help users configure, understand, and gain insights from their data.

This is a fully remote position for candidates in Canada or the United States, specifically in the EST or CST time zones.

Responsibilities

Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout, including gathering user feedback and measuring outcomes.
Mentor and collaborate with engineers through code reviews, design feedback, pairing, and technical guidance.
Participate in on-call rotations for the services you help build.
Contribute to incident response and post-incident learning.
Provide technical support during customer escalations and identify areas of user friction.
Collaborate across squads by writing design proposals, running demos, representing the team's work, and contributing to roadmap discussions.
Use AI coding assistants for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups while maintaining strong review and quality standards.

Requirements

Experience providing technical leadership, leading teams through projects, mentoring engineers, and serving as a force multiplier.
Clear communication skills for a fully remote and asynchronous environment.
Experience operating production software, participating in on-call rotations, supporting software in production, maintaining reliability, and responding to incidents.
Ability to build production software systems and solve complex engineering problems with minimal supervision.
A pragmatic, user-focused approach based on short feedback loops: analyze, design, deliver an MVP, learn, and iterate.
Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks, with a practical focus on delivering reliable, high-quality solutions.
Interest in contributing to the Grafana user and open-source community.

Technical Stack

The Grafana Frontend stack is primarily based on TypeScript, React, uPlot, and Apache ECharts. The work is open source and includes Grafana visualizations, data visualization tooling, testing strategies, and visual regression tooling.

Bonus Qualifications

Open-source contribution or maintainership experience.
Experience engaging with open-source communities.
Interest in observability, including metrics, logs, and traces.
Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, or other observability platforms.
Experience using Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or Tempo on call, including in a homelab.
Experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
