Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform used by businesses worldwide. The Merchant Experience team builds the user interface platforms and core product experiences powering the Stripe Dashboard and other merchant-facing tools.

The team is focused on improving the quality, performance, reliability, and responsiveness of Stripe's merchant surfaces while exploring AI-native user experiences.

Responsibilities

• Define technical strategy for merchant-facing experiences across Stripe, focusing on quality, performance, and AI integration into core user workflows.
• Lead the design and delivery of complex, cross-team projects that improve the reliability, responsiveness, and polish of Stripe merchant surfaces.
• Establish standards, tooling, and processes that support high-quality, performant UI development.
• Drive performance improvements for the Stripe Dashboard and merchant tools, including instrumentation, performance budgets, and architectural improvements.
• Explore and prototype AI-powered merchant experiences that improve how users discover, configure, and operate Stripe products.
• Build frameworks, components, abstractions, and developer tools that improve engineering productivity.
• Partner with Product, Design, AI and ML, and infrastructure teams to translate product vision into a technical roadmap.
• Mentor and develop engineers across the organization while raising technical standards and fostering engineering craftsmanship.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Senior Staff-level scope, including oversight of 4–6 teams and ownership of an entire product portfolio. Most candidates will have 10–15 years of industry experience.
• Experience building and shipping complex, user-facing web applications for large-scale audiences or applications contributed to by hundreds of engineers.
• A track record of leading large-scale, cross-functional engineering projects with broad organizational impact.
• Deep expertise in modern frontend and full-stack development, with strong judgment regarding user experience and the technical ability to implement it.
• Demonstrated ability to improve software quality and performance, including load times, reliability, test coverage, and error rates.
• Experience influencing technical direction and aligning multiple teams without formal authority.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical vision to engineers, product leaders, and executives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or maintaining design systems, component libraries, or frontend platform infrastructure at scale, ideally with React.
• Interest in the intersection of AI and UX and experience exploring new interaction models.
• Experience with performance engineering, including profiling, instrumentation, budgeting, and optimization of modern web applications.
• Experience deploying large web applications at global scale, including bundling, CDNs, browser compatibility, and build tooling.
• Comfort working across the full stack, including APIs, backend services, and data layers.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, API design, and platforms serving internal developers and external users.
• Passion for developer experience and improving engineering productivity.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and contributing to engineering culture and hiring.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI-powered capabilities into user-facing products.
