Details

SpaceXAI is seeking a skilled AI Design Specialist to enhance its AI models by providing high-quality data annotations and design-focused inputs for training Grok. The role involves evaluating, refining, and creating design work across graphic design, brand and visual design, product and UI/UX design, web design, game design, and illustration. This position is grounded in design judgment rather than software engineering or mastery of every medium.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate design outputs across visual assets, layouts, documents, websites, interactive prototypes, games, and related formats.
  • Distinguish weak design from work that is clear, functional, and well-resolved, including identifying designs that appear attractive but fail in practical use.
  • Refine, restyle, or recreate outputs that fall short and produce exceptionally strong reference examples.
  • Write precise, well-reasoned annotations and critiques explaining the difference between mediocre, good, and excellent design.
  • Label high-quality datasets spanning graphic design, interface design, web experiences, game feel, and related design writing.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on evaluation tasks, rubrics, and examples that establish a high standard for design quality.
  • Work across a broad range of briefs and styles, from simple static pieces to complex interactive products, while maintaining consistent quality and judgment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated design excellence in at least one professional discipline, such as graphic design, brand or visual design, product or UI/UX design, web design, game design, or illustration.
  • A portfolio, personal website, Behance, Dribbble, ArtStation, shipped product, published work, or equivalent showing strong taste and finished, high-quality work.
  • Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, color, composition, consistency, and clarity of communication.
  • Ability to evaluate design quality outside one's primary specialty and clearly explain what works, what does not, and why.
  • Fluency in English and excellent written communication for critiques, annotations, and design rationale.
  • High attention to detail and comfort working from evolving instructions in a fast-paced evaluation setting.
  • Comfort creating high-quality reference examples, not only scoring existing work.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Strength across more than one design domain, such as graphic design and web design or UI and game design.
  • Experience shipping or professionally reviewing websites, product interfaces, or games.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles, including contrast, readability, target size, and clear information architecture.
  • Working knowledge of modern design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or equivalent. Frontend or game-engine familiarity is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with generative AI design tools and the ability to identify when AI output is generic, broken, or well-designed.
  • Experience in design critique, art direction, quality assurance, design review, data annotation, dataset creation, or AI evaluation.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, and other remote collaboration tools.

Work Arrangement and Other Expectations

  • Tutor roles may be full-time, part-time, or contractor positions, depending on role needs and candidate fit.
  • Contractor hours vary based on project scope and availability, with no fixed commitments required. On average, projects may involve at least 10 hours per week to achieve deliverables effectively, but this is not a fixed commitment. Contractors can set their own hours and determine the time needed to complete deliverables.
  • Roles may be performed remotely from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility, time-zone compatibility, and role-specific needs.
  • US-based candidates cannot be hired in Wyoming or Illinois at this time.
  • Visa sponsorship is not provided.
  • Candidates working from a personal device must use a Chromebook, a Mac running macOS 11.0 or later, or Windows 10 or later.

Compensation and Benefits

  • US-based candidates: $35-$75 per hour, depending on relevant experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications.
  • International candidates will receive compensation information during the recruitment process.
  • Benefits vary by employment type, location, and jurisdiction. Eligible US-based positions may include health insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave.
