About the Team
The Applied AI Engineering team enables the secure and impactful implementation of generative AI solutions. The team serves as a technical thought partner and trusted advisor to clients, identifying high-value use cases and providing hands-on guidance to move projects into production. Within the Government team, this role will help agencies improve their operations through automated content synthesis, advanced search capabilities, and bespoke applications leveraging foundational AI technologies and models.
About the Role
This role partners with public sector customers to help them achieve tangible value with generative AI. You will work with federal, state, and local government agencies, policymakers, and other public institutions to establish generative AI strategies and identify high-value applications. You will then partner with technical teams, subject matter experts, systems integrators, and implementation partners to move projects from prototype through production.
You will take a holistic view of customer needs and design architectures using the OpenAI API and other services to maximize customer value. The role collaborates closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Global Affairs, Applied Research, and Product teams.
The role is based in Washington, DC. Relocation support is offered to new employees.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead and thought partner for sophisticated public sector customers, ideating and building applications using the OpenAI API and foundational technologies such as Codex.
- Work with senior customer stakeholders to identify effective generative AI applications and build and qualify a comprehensive backlog supporting their AI roadmap.
- Accelerate customer time to value by building hands-on prototypes and providing strategic guidance, often in collaboration with systems integrators and implementation partners.
- Build and manage relationships with customer and implementation partner leadership and stakeholders to support successful application deployment and scale.
- Contribute to open-source developer and enterprise resources.
- Help scale the Deployment Engineering function by sharing knowledge, codifying best practices, and publishing notebooks to internal and external repositories.
- Validate, synthesize, and deliver high-signal feedback to Product, Engineering, and Research teams.
Requirements
- 7+ years of technical consulting or equivalent experience with public sector customers, preferably U.S. federal customers, bridging technical teams and senior stakeholders.
- Experience successfully leading generative AI or traditional machine learning implementations for government agencies in collaboration with systems integrators and implementation partners.
- Understanding of network and cloud architecture, including experience with on-premises deployments.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate business and technical topics for varied audiences.
- Industry experience with programming languages such as Python, Go, or TypeScript.
- Ability to own problems end-to-end and acquire the knowledge needed to complete the work.
- Humble, collaborative attitude and willingness to support team success.
- Ability to drive multiple concurrent projects and prioritize effectively.
