Details
The Senior Application Engineer will be responsible for the development, enhancement, maintenance, and production support of critical enterprise applications within ING Americas. This hands-on role requires strong Java development skills, Linux/Unix expertise, and experience supporting applications in production. The successful candidate will work with business stakeholders, architecture teams, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity, risk teams, and fellow engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.
ING Americas follows a hybrid work model, allowing for in-office and work-from-home flexibility. Hybrid work arrangements vary by business area.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and implement enhancements for regional business applications.
- Provide second-line production support for business-critical applications, including incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and issue resolution.
- Develop and maintain services, APIs, and integrations.
- Support applications and perform operational troubleshooting.
- Create, enhance, and maintain scripts and programs to automate operational and support activities.
- Analyze application logs, system metrics, and monitoring data to proactively identify issues and improve platform stability.
- Participate in software deployments, release activities, and change management processes.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, database, cybersecurity, and business teams to deliver solutions and resolve production issues.
- Implement application improvements to enhance performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards, secure coding practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge sharing within the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Five or more years of experience developing and supporting enterprise applications.
- Java, preferably with Spring or Spring Boot.
- Apache Tomcat.
- SQL and database development.
- PowerShell and automation scripting.
- Linux, including RHEL/Unix environments and Bash/Shell scripting.
- Application support and production troubleshooting.
Strongly Preferred
- REST APIs.
- IBM MQ and enterprise messaging.
- Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- SWIFT messaging.
- DTCC connectivity.
- Post-trade processing.
- File-based integrations, including CSV and XML.
- Authentication technologies, including LDAP, Active Directory, SAML, OIDC, and Entra ID.
Financial Markets Domain Experience
- Securities and trade lifecycle processing.
- Regulatory reporting.
