Details
Bloomberg is seeking a technical Project Manager to manage the delivery of mission-critical construction projects and strategic initiatives across its global data center portfolio. The role oversees the design, construction, and commissioning of data center facilities and critical infrastructure projects, including financial governance, stakeholder coordination, documentation, training, and operational support.
Responsibilities
Project Management
- Coordinate project meetings, documentation, agendas, and meeting minutes.
- Manage the design process with vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate the design, construction, and commissioning of critical systems, including diesel generators, UPS systems, electrical switchgear, power distribution equipment, chillers, HVAC equipment, fire detection and suppression systems, and building monitoring systems.
- Manage the design, construction, and commissioning of administration areas, offices, warehouses, and storage spaces.
- Coordinate with Bloomberg departments including Engineering, Network Operations, Security, and other internal teams.
- Manage data center facility documentation, including plans, procedures, and operations manuals for final turnover.
- Coordinate data center facilities training during commissioning and final turnover.
- Manage testing and commissioning processes to meet project requirements and goals.
- Prepare presentations and reports covering construction and budgetary progress.
- Assist with data center strategy and real estate site-selection initiatives.
Program Management
- Engage stakeholders across Engineering, Data, Corporate Technology, Security Operations, Corporate Finance, Sustainability, and leadership teams.
- Assist with program and vendor management for the design, construction, and operation of mission-critical data center infrastructure.
- Serve as a stakeholder point of contact throughout the program lifecycle, supporting prioritization, expectations management, and trade-off decisions.
- Develop strategic project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, deliverables, interdependencies, and cross-team roadmaps.
- Manage program-wide risks, interdependencies, issues, and cross-team collaboration.
- Develop mitigation plans and act as an escalation point for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with leadership to manage business-plan changes.
- Build relationships across multidisciplinary teams and departmental boundaries.
- Maintain program plans, risk registers, and communication strategies.
- Monitor and report KPIs, milestones, and deliverables to leadership.
- Support program governance through documentation and presentations for steering committees and senior leadership.
- Champion continuous improvement focused on infrastructure reliability, scalability, and sustainability.
- Manage smaller strategic initiatives and programs valued between $100,000 and $5 million.
Financial Management
- Prepare budgets for capital and operational projects.
- Support department operational and capital-improvement financial management and governance.
- Coordinate general contractor and construction manager processes, procurement plans, subcontractor procurement, leveling, and awards.
- Manage direct and contractor equipment purchases.
- Manage construction and site-development budgets and financial governance.
- Approve and track vendor purchase orders, invoices, and costs using industry best practices.
- Coordinate change-management processes, procedural development, and risk assessments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or equivalent experience of at least 10 years.
- At least five years of experience in the data center market sector.
- Financial project management and governance experience involving more than $50 million.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
- Knowledge of data center environments and utility systems, UPS systems, emergency generators, electrical distribution, chilled water systems, critical air handling and conditioning systems, pre-action systems, and fire alarm and protection systems.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and architectural plans and specifications.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with real estate leases, transactions, and commercial agreements.
- Experience operating and maintaining critical infrastructure and systems.
- Understanding of data center IT systems, including telecom networks, switches, routers, servers, storage, and cabling systems.
- Experience with Smartsheet, eBuilder, Trimble, Procore, Autodesk, and other project or program management platforms.
- PMP certification.
- Sustainability and LEED experience.
