Details

You will join Eneco's AgroEnergy team as an Experienced Data Engineer, combining hands-on data engineering with technical leadership. You will design, build, and improve cloud-native data solutions in Azure that power predictive models and a self-built dimensional data warehouse supporting energy optimization and trading decisions for agricultural clients and B2B Flex Services.

The role includes expanding EPEX day-ahead forecasting from hourly to quarter-hourly resolution, introducing AI-assisted data transformations in C#, migrating toward Snowflake using OneLake with Iceberg tables, and modernizing the Azure landscape to align with Eneco's Azure Policy Framework, NIS2, and current security and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion through transformation to structured exposure.
  • Develop and maintain predictive data flows for forecasting and energy optimization, including expanding EPEX day-ahead forecasting from hourly to quarter-hourly resolution.
  • Build and optimize a dimensional data warehouse for analytics and Power BI reporting.
  • Create and maintain architecture overviews covering platform components, integrations, dependencies, and data flows.
  • Define and communicate technical direction for data architecture, engineering standards, and platform modernization.
  • Lead migration and integration of platform components toward Snowflake, including OneLake with Iceberg tables.
  • Align the Azure landscape with Eneco's Azure Policy Framework and ensure compliance with NIS2 and current security standards.
  • Introduce AI-assisted tooling to accelerate and simplify data transformations in C#.
  • Identify technical debt and translate it into improvement plans and initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance, peer coaching, and mentorship to other data engineers.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for data workflows, including testing, validation, and deployment.
  • Apply Infrastructure as Code for Azure resource deployments.
  • Ensure monitoring, incident analysis, and operational reliability of data pipelines.
  • Collaborate with testers, business analysts, product owners, and stakeholders across the AgroEnergy and B2B Flex Services value chains.

Requirements

  • Strong data engineering experience in Azure cloud environments, or C# backend development experience with a clear data engineering focus.
  • Proficiency in C# or equivalent programming languages used in data-intensive environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Azure SQL Databases, and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing, reviewing, and optimizing complex queries.
  • Dutch proficiency for reading and listening; speaking and writing may be in Dutch or English.
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices, including code reviews, version control, testing, and CI/CD.
  • Experience working with analysts, data scientists, quantitative specialists, or business-oriented teams.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into architecture decisions and technical direction.
  • Experience contributing to platform migration or modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with data modeling and architecture patterns such as dimensional modeling or data vault.
  • Experience with Azure monitoring and observability tooling.
  • Genuine interest in DevOps principles and production-grade deployment practices.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Snowflake and/or lakehouse patterns such as OneLake with Iceberg tables.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tooling in a data engineering or C# context.
  • Familiarity with energy market data, EPEX trading, or forecasting in a volatile commodity market.
  • Background in agri-tech or another domain where data directly drives operational or commercial decisions.

Benefits

  • Gross annual salary of €70,000–€90,000, including FlexBudget and 8% holiday allowance; a bonus or collective profit sharing may apply depending on the role.
  • Flexible FlexBudget that can be paid out, used to purchase additional holidays, or saved.
  • Personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Flexible hybrid working: 40% in the office, 40% from home, and 20% flexibly.
  • With manager approval, the possibility to work abroad in approved countries for up to three weeks per year, with a maximum of two consecutive weeks.
  • Rotterdam is the home base.

The position is part of Eneco's Digital & Tech domain and is embedded within the AgroEnergy business value chain, also serving B2B Flex Services. The team consists of data engineers and a test engineer and works closely with AgroEnergy product stakeholders.
