Details

Airbnb's Cities Team develops software systems that enable the company to work effectively with local governments. The team designs systems to model regulations around the world, deploy them safely, and operationalize them at scale while supporting global supply growth and retention. The role involves close collaboration with Operations, Product, Policy, Legal, and other cross-functional partners across the United States and India.

Responsibilities

Build tools and systems to scale regulatory launches worldwide, with a focus on supply growth and retention.
Design and build product and platform features.
Work closely with global cross-functional stakeholders on product alignment, requirements, and specifications.
Build highly scalable and reliable features and platforms using engineering best practices.
Foster a culture of craftsmanship, quality, and excellence.
Represent the engineering team with global cross-functional partners across regulatory projects.
Strategize and brainstorm opportunities with Product, Partnerships, and other cross-functional leaders.
Define and drive relevant metrics to measure initiative success.
Support 24x7 engineering operations to maintain highly reliable services.

Requirements

Bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Two or more years of relevant engineering experience.
Strong coding abilities and experience with architectural patterns for large-scale, high-scale applications.
Proficiency in one or more JVM-based languages, such as Java, Kotlin, or Scala.
Familiarity with frontend web technologies, including HTML, CSS, React, and GraphQL.
Experience architecting, building, and maintaining highly available services in a service-oriented architecture (SOA).
Familiarity with patterns, libraries, and frameworks for building and testing services, as well as service-to-service communication.
Experience partnering with Operations, Policy, Legal, and Product functions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to structure complex and ambiguous problems, identify patterns, and propose data-driven solutions.
Self-driven with strong project management abilities.
Ability to drive end-to-end initiatives, align stakeholders, manage timelines, and proactively remove roadblocks in fast-moving environments.
