About the Team

The Demo Studio translates OpenAI’s most advanced capabilities into tangible, high-impact experiences for customers. The team designs and delivers demos, applications, and environments that help executives understand what is possible with AI.

Its work sits at the intersection of product, engineering, design, and go-to-market. The team operates as a hybrid of product studio and live production team, building experiences that are both technically credible and narratively compelling.

About the Role

The Demo Studio Engineer builds and delivers compelling demonstrations for OpenAI’s events, webinars, and customer engagements.

The role independently owns defined demo projects from initial brief through delivery, translating approved product positioning and audience needs into working applications, believable workflows, and clear stories. Responsibilities include building and testing the underlying experience, preparing it for live use, and presenting it directly to executive, technical, and industry audiences.

The engineer makes practical implementation decisions, anticipates risks, collaborates with partners, and improves the tools, documentation, and reusable components that make demos easier to build and deliver.

Responsibilities

  • Independently deliver defined demo projects for events, webinars, and executive engagements while managing milestones and communicating progress, risks, and dependencies.
  • Translate approved positioning, real product capabilities, and customer needs into clear narratives, realistic workflows, and useful takeaways.
  • Build working applications, high-fidelity demo environments, and AI-powered workflows using ChatGPT Work, Codex, APIs, approved data, and connected tools.
  • Test and debug demos, validate capabilities and known limitations, and prepare fallback and recovery plans.
  • Present live and recorded demonstrations, adapting the story and technical detail to the audience and responding thoughtfully to questions.
  • Prepare presenter guidance, participate in rehearsals, and troubleshoot technical issues during delivery.
  • Collaborate with Product, Research, Engineering, Design, Product Marketing, Solutions Engineering, GTM, and Events.
  • Incorporate product, sales, and customer success perspectives so demonstrations address real customer questions and support adoption.
  • Adapt established demos for different audiences and formats while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Create reusable components, reference demos, and documentation, and incorporate feedback to improve the team’s work.
  • Identify scope and delivery tradeoffs early, propose solutions, and seek alignment when decisions affect broader priorities or commitments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience building technical demos, prototypes, customer-facing applications, or similar interactive experiences.
  • Ability to independently take a moderately scoped project from brief to delivery, anticipate challenges, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Comfortable writing and debugging code, working with APIs and data, and connecting tools into useful AI-powered workflows.
  • Strong working knowledge of a technical area and practical judgment about usability, reliability, and technical limitations.
  • Ability to turn complex technical concepts into clear stories grounded in real customer needs.
  • Experience presenting technical work live and communicating clearly with executive, technical, and nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions, incorporate different perspectives, and constructively challenge assumptions.
  • Strong attention to craft and detail, follow-through on commitments, and composure when troubleshooting under pressure.
  • Curiosity about AI and an active interest in exploring how new capabilities can create useful customer experiences.
