Details
Confluent is building a data streaming platform that enables companies to stream information in near real time. WarpStream is an Apache Kafka-compatible data streaming platform built directly on top of object storage with zero local disks and delivered as a BYOC-style offering.
The WarpStream team owns the product end to end. As a senior engineer, you will work on the storage engine running in the Agents, improve the scalability of the multi-tenant control plane, implement features such as transactions and active-active multi-region clusters, and contribute to the developer console using HTML and JavaScript. The team has fewer than 15 engineers, so you will work across the entire stack, from network-level systems to the user interface.
You will solve complex distributed systems problems at scale and build services that operate across AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure. The role includes on-call responsibilities. The WarpStream team is fully remote and geographically distributed, with engineers currently in Spain, France, Canada, Ireland, and the United States.
Responsibilities
- Independently drive complex technical projects from conception through delivery.
- Build mission-critical backend services for customers.
- Architect, design, develop, and operationalize high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient services.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues across a complex technical stack involving microservices, containers, and virtualization.
- Ensure operational readiness and meet availability and performance service-level agreements.
- Participate in on-call support for critical systems.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of industry experience designing, building, scaling, and supporting backend systems in production.
- Strong software engineering practices, including code reviews, a focus on quality, and documentation.
- Strong programming and algorithmic skills.
- Proficiency in a major programming language such as Java, Go, C, C++, or Python.
- Deep curiosity about and enthusiasm for distributed systems and storage systems.
- Strong project delivery and communication skills.
- Experience driving operational excellence for large-scale production services.
- A strong sense of customer centricity, teamwork, technical leadership, and mentorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- A proven track record of delivering large-scale, highly available, high-quality systems.
- Hands-on technical expertise in large-scale systems engineering or distributed systems.
- Experience handling critical systems through on-call rotations.
