GitLab is seeking an Engineering Manager, Growth to build and enable a high-performing team focused on helping users discover, activate, and expand value in GitLab. The Growth team connects acquisition, activation, engagement, retention, and monetization through measurable self-serve loops and experimentation.
The role combines people management with technical guidance. You will hire, coach, and develop team members; guide architecture and implementation discussions; support experimentation; and partner with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering stakeholders to improve the user experience. The team works globally, remotely, asynchronously, and in an agile manner across GitLab.com.
Responsibilities
- Hire, guide, and enable a high-performing Growth engineering team.
- Partner with Product Managers, Product Designers, Data counterparts, and Engineering Managers to deliver improvements in user discovery, activation, and expansion of value.
- Own team delivery, including planning, prioritization, and execution across experiments and product improvements.
- Guide experiment ideation, ICE-based prioritization, hypothesis development, and results review.
- Guide the technical design and implementation of experiments and growth-oriented product changes.
- Work across Growth and other stage groups while maintaining clear ownership boundaries.
- Participate in technical discussions and reviews, unblock complex issues, and communicate technical and experimental tradeoffs clearly.
- Foster asynchronous communication and cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, Analytics Instrumentation, Data, Customer Success, Sales, and other Growth counterparts.
- Drive adoption of AI-native experimentation and workflows.
- Support projects such as improving signup, onboarding, activation, discoverability, conversion, engagement, retention, and upgrade flows.
Requirements
- Experience managing product, growth, or development teams and building high-performing, values-aligned teams.
- Strong technical background with the ability to guide full-stack engineering work, architecture discussions, and pragmatic delivery.
- Experience working with Product, Design, and Data to deliver measurable outcomes through iteration, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Comfort working in a data-informed environment, prioritizing opportunities, evaluating experiment results, and supporting evidence-based decisions.
- Ability to analyze complex technical and product issues and translate them into clear language for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience managing remote, globally distributed teams in an all-remote, asynchronous environment.
- Experience with developer tools and product-led growth.
- Ability to use AI-driven tools creatively to solve complex product challenges and model GitLab’s values.
