OpenAI is seeking a product design leader to shape how startups, small businesses, and growing teams discover, adopt, and derive lasting value from Codex and ChatGPT. The role focuses on B2B growth experiences and combines team leadership with hands-on design execution.

Responsibilities

• Lead design for growth experiences across Codex and ChatGPT for business users.
• Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of 2–5+ product designers.
• Operate as a hands-on design leader, contributing directly to high-impact projects.
• Set a high bar for interaction design, visual craft, systems thinking, content, and end-to-end product experiences.
• Partner with product, engineering, data science, research, and go-to-market teams.
• Design and improve experiences across discovery, onboarding, activation, engagement, collaboration, conversion, and retention.
• Use quantitative data, experimentation, research, and qualitative insights to identify opportunities and evaluate outcomes.
• Translate complex and evolving AI capabilities into clear, approachable experiences for users with a wide range of technical expertise.
• Move between long-term product vision and fast, iterative execution.
• Help define AI-native growth experiences.
• Build a culture of craft, ownership, candid feedback, and high performance.

Requirements

• A portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking, interaction design, and visual craft across complex, shipped products.
• Experience as a player-coach who develops other designers while remaining close to the details of the work.
• Experience managing product designers, or senior design leadership experience involving mentorship, complex initiatives, and broader team impact.
• Ability to coach designers to move quickly while maintaining a high bar for clarity, coherence, and craft.
• Fluency in using AI to explore, prototype, communicate, and create.
• Comfort working with data and experiments while balancing quantitative signals with research, judgment, and design intuition.
• Strong product judgment and the ability to connect user needs, business goals, and technical possibilities.
• Ability to turn ambiguous, fast-moving problems into clear vision and actionable direction.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to align teams around a compelling product narrative.
• Interest in rethinking established patterns and inventing interactions native to AI.
• Ability to collaborate closely with engineering, product, research, and data teams.
• Commitment to building useful, trustworthy products.

Direct experience in growth design, developer products, or people management is welcome but not required. OpenAI is open to experienced design managers as well as exceptional senior individual contributors with strong mentorship, leadership, and team-level impact.

• Base pay of $347,000–$405,000 per year, plus equity.
