About the Team

The Billing organization at Stripe builds and operates Stripe Billing, a growing product vertical. Hundreds of thousands of businesses use Stripe Billing to collect revenue for recurring and one-time payments across various pricing models, including SaaS subscriptions, multi-stage contracts, business analytics, and recovery and retention tools.

Stripe Billing’s technology and products must be configurable and programmable to support complex business models. The team works on modeling different types of businesses and enabling customers to combine Stripe Billing platform primitives into holistic solutions.

Responsibilities

Stripe is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team within the Stripe Billing organization. The role involves managing a high-performing engineering team and partnering with product managers and other cross-functional leaders to shape the team’s strategy and roadmap.

You will:

• Partner closely with engineering leaders, product managers, and designers to shape the team’s strategy and roadmap.
• Apply first-principles thinking to complex problems and system design.
• Foster a healthy team culture with a high level of trust and psychological safety.
• Define processes that enable the team to perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Coach and mentor engineers to help them advance their careers and develop new skills.
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe’s engineering management team.
• Work closely with Stripe’s recruiting team to hire strong engineering talent.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering management experience.
• 8+ years of full-time software development experience.
• A consistent track record of hiring and leading productive engineering teams.
• Experience nurturing healthy, supportive, challenging, diverse, and inclusive work environments.
• Motivation to work in highly cross-functional organizations, with a strong ability to lead and measure product outcomes.
• A strong technical background and hands-on experience solving large-scale and difficult technical problems.
• Experience building extensible, leveraged software solutions that scale to different kinds of user needs.
• The ability to thrive while operating with a high level of autonomy and responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong product and design sense, with an interest in finding elegant solutions to complex problems.
• Experience building strong cross-team relationships across organizational boundaries.
• Experience building and leading distributed teams across multiple locations and time zones.
