Details
OpenAI’s Pricing team works across product, go-to-market, finance, and strategy to define how OpenAI packages, prices, and scales access to its products for consumer, SMB, and enterprise customers. This role is the first dedicated data science position on the Pricing team and involves building the analytical foundation for pricing, influencing executive decisions, and defining the team’s data science practices.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior analytical partner to the CFO, Head of Pricing, Product, and go-to-market leaders on pricing and monetization decisions.
- Build the analytical foundation for pricing across consumer, SMB, and enterprise segments, from exploratory analysis to repeatable decision systems.
- Design and execute analyses connecting customer behavior, product usage, conversion, retention, revenue outcomes, and pricing strategy.
- Develop models, algorithms, experiments, and decision frameworks for pricing, packaging, discounting, and willingness-to-pay questions.
- Translate technical work into executive recommendations and practical guidance for cross-functional teams.
- Help define the roadmap, standards, and future operating model for a dedicated pricing data science function.
Requirements
- Significant experience in data science, analytics, economics, statistics, machine learning, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong technical ability in analysis, modeling, experimentation, causal inference, and data-driven decision-making.
- Experience with pricing, monetization, marketplace dynamics, usage-based pricing, dynamic pricing, packaging, or other complex business problems.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments, define analytical direction from scratch, and frame tradeoffs for senior stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence executive, business, product, technical, and cross-functional audiences.
- Experience working across consumer, SMB, enterprise, marketplace, platform, or AI/API businesses is preferred.
- Experience building pricing models, systems, experimentation programs, or decision frameworks is preferred.
- A PhD is preferred; a master’s degree or equivalent practical experience may also be suitable.
- Experience establishing a data science function, operating model, technical roadmap, or executive decision cadence is preferred.
