Details
Anthropic is seeking a technical leader to build and scale its technical instruction function. The role will teach engineers, architects, and technical practitioners; manage technical instructors; establish instructional quality standards; and create certification systems for internal and external instructors.
This is a player-coach position. The successful candidate will lead technical sessions, manage an instructor bench, define readiness standards, certify instructors, and continuously improve technical content based on teaching outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on technical instruction across Anthropic’s onboarding and residency programs, including small labs and large field-readiness sessions.
- Hire, onboard, manage, and develop technical instructors.
- Run the instructor hiring process and establish performance, renewal, and conversion criteria.
- Define instructional quality standards, including observation rubrics, dry-run protocols, and cleared-to-teach processes.
- Design and run train-the-trainer programs for internal experts, contract instructors, and training-partner facilitators.
- Assess and certify instructors against Anthropic’s technical delivery standards.
- Partner with Technical Enablement Leads to turn technical content into live sessions, labs, and exercises.
- Partner with onboarding and Training & Certification teams to staff programs with cleared instructors.
- Own instructional quality within programs while supporting teams that own the broader programs.
- Establish measures of learner outcomes and instructor quality, review results, identify shortcomings, and improve instruction.
Requirements
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, developer advocacy, technical education, or related technical roles.
- 4+ years of hands-on technical instruction for engineers in live settings, across different audience sizes and levels of technical depth.
- Production engineering experience, including writing and shipping production code and engaging with experienced engineers on architecture, implementation, debugging, and technical tradeoffs.
- Recent hands-on AI development experience. Within the past three years, applicants must have built or debugged applications using LLM APIs, agent frameworks, tool use, MCP, or similar technologies.
- People leadership experience managing instructors, trainers, developer advocates, solutions engineers, or similar technical practitioners, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and development.
- Experience designing or running a train-the-trainer program, instructor certification process, observation framework, or comparable instructor-quality system.
- Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate. The role requires being in the San Francisco office whenever an instructor-led program is in session, typically 3–4 days per week.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
Preferred Qualifications
- A portfolio of sessions, labs, or courses built and taught, plus a rubric, certification process, or train-the-trainer program designed for others.
- Experience building an instruction or developer-education function from scratch.
- Experience managing a contractor or vendor-supplied instructor bench, or certifying instructors across regions using recordings or trained observers.
- Experience with Claude Code or a comparable agentic coding tool as core infrastructure in daily work.
- Experience building on the Claude Developer Platform through Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry.
- Public speaking, conference workshops, or community-facing developer advocacy experience.
- Deep enthusiasm for AI and responsible AI development.
Benefits
Anthropic offers competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and an office environment designed for collaboration. Anthropic sponsors visas where possible and makes reasonable efforts to support visa applications with the help of an immigration lawyer.
The location-based hybrid policy generally expects staff to be in an Anthropic office at least 25% of the time; this role typically requires 3–4 days per week in the San Francisco office when programs are running.
Compensation
Annual salary: $1–$2 USD.
