Details
Perplexity is seeking engineers to join its Agents engineering team, which includes backend, full-stack, and AI/ML engineers building harnesses and AI systems for agentic experiences such as Perplexity Computer, the Comet ecosystem, and the Agent API.
The team aims to build agents that can faithfully actualize user intent through open-ended interactions with the world. Engineers will work across applied research and engineering to address open problems in AI, including designing agents that navigate the digital world, training action and decision models using complex multimodal states, supporting desktop, mobile, and headless cloud environments, developing secure-by-design agentic capabilities, and designing data representations and interaction modes between agents and their environments.
Responsibilities
- Engineer agent harnesses that connect powerful models with the environments and tools required to perform economically valuable work for users.
- Drive cutting-edge AI capabilities across multiple layers of a rapidly growing AI agents product.
- Develop and leverage AI models, infrastructure, and browser technologies to advance capabilities and scale them for a growing user base.
- Maintain a high bar for craft and quality in AI agent performance and user experience.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, data scientists, and others to integrate core Perplexity functionality into frontier agentic products and vice versa.
- Contribute to product reliability, code quality, AI evaluation, testing, and maintenance across the broader team.
Requirements
- Strong foundational familiarity with the full AI product stack.
- Proficiency in Python; TypeScript, Go, and/or Rust are a bonus.
- Significant experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Context engineering and tool interfaces for frontier AI models.
- Post-training and reinforcement learning, particularly for multimodal models.
- Browser technologies, including CDP, Playwright, or extension development.
- Strong product intuition and a focus on user experience excellence.
- Comfort working with a small, fast-moving team and taking ownership.
- Passion for shipping products that surprise and delight.
Benefits
Full-time U.S. employees receive a comprehensive benefits program including equity, health, dental, vision, retirement, fitness, commuter and dependent care accounts, and more.
