Anthropic is hiring an experienced operator to support the leadership of its reinforcement learning (RL) organization, which is responsible for training Claude to be more capable, reliable, and aligned. The role reports to the Manager of Research Operations and works daily with RL organization leaders and their teams.

Responsibilities

• Shape leadership priorities, agendas, and schedules so leaders focus on high-leverage work.
• Triage issues reaching leadership by resolving, routing, or escalating them appropriately.
• Support timely decision-making by preparing information, communicating decisions, and tracking commitments through completion.
• Identify resourcing gaps, technical bottlenecks, and stalled action items before they become blockers.
• Draft materials for organization-wide announcements, programming, and planning sessions.
• Identify recurring operational friction and connect it with the people who can improve the underlying processes.
• Serve as a candid thought partner to leaders, including providing strategic guidance and respectful disagreement.

Requirements

• Strong alignment with Anthropic’s mission to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems.
• Technical fluency sufficient to engage substantively with researchers, including following discussions about RL training runs, interpreting evaluation results, forming reasonable hypotheses, and understanding the model training process.
• Clear writing skills, with the ability to turn dense technical material into actionable summaries and plans.
• Ability to evaluate data visualizations and scope dashboard improvements that make insights clear and accessible.
• Strong follow-through and attention to detail.
• Ability to challenge senior stakeholders, provide strategic guidance, disagree constructively, and influence without direct authority.
• Comfort with ambiguity, rapid change, and high-pressure environments.
• Experience in operations, chief of staff, program management, or a comparable role supporting senior leaders in a fast-moving technical organization.
• High integrity and sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience directly supporting a senior leader in a chief of staff or related function.
• Experience in a research institution, laboratory, or research-heavy organization.
• A track record of anticipating colleagues’ and leaders’ needs and acting proactively.
• Experience moving routine operational work to AI agents, or the ability to script and build small tools.
• Familiarity with AI safety or existential risks.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Relevant field of study demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
• Required years of experience correlate with the internal job level for the position.

Compensation and Work Policy

• Annual salary: $210,000–$260,000 USD.
• Hybrid policy: Staff are expected to work from one of Anthropic’s offices at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time.
