Senior iOS Engineer, Media Foundations

Reddit's Media Foundation team builds scalable media solutions and delivers high-performance media experiences across platforms. This role focuses on shaping Reddit's media experience on iOS by building a modular video player, driving technical and product strategy, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver world-class video experiences.

Responsibilities

• Architect a highly modular, easy-to-integrate iOS video player enabling other teams to build features while delivering first-class performance for users.
• Partner with backend media infrastructure and CDN teams to optimize global delivery and performance.
• Work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute product and business strategy and build novel media products and features.
• Set and define engineering standards that improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and help coach and mentor engineers.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to accelerate prototyping, system design, and coding while applying rigorous judgment to validate and own final outputs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical expertise.
• 5+ years of hands-on, professional software development experience developing user-facing iOS native applications at scale, using Swift.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on schedule.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating effectively in a fully remote environment with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven track record of leading projects that require cross-team and cross-functional collaboration.
• Entrepreneurial, self-directed, innovative, and biased toward action in fast-paced environments.

Nice To Have

• Knowledge of AVFoundation for video and audio playback, asset management, streaming, editing, and exporting.
• Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), MPEG-DASH, MP4, streaming frameworks, and CDN integration for optimized video delivery.
• Hands-on experience optimizing video player performance or building feature-rich products on top of core media playback components.
• Experience using data and performance metrics to optimize apps and improve user experience.
• Experience building robust, clean, and scalable APIs/components designed to be consumed by other internal teams.

Pay Transparency

• Base salary range (U.S.-based): $190,000 - $267,000 USD.
• This role may be eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units and, depending on the position, may be eligible to receive a commission.
