Senior iOS Engineer, Media Foundations

Reddit's Media Experience team builds video experiences that help users discover, consume, and engage with media content. The team focuses on improving video views, video users, watch time, retention, and quality of experience through product experimentation, performance optimization, and data-informed development.

Responsibilities

• Lead the iOS architecture for user-facing features that improve video discovery and consumption.
• Design and build immersive viewing surfaces and intuitive UI/UX flows that maximize watch time, user retention, and daily active video consumers.
• Partner with senior management to support rapid prototyping and A/B testing while maintaining the performance requirements of a modern media application.
• Use design, performance signals, retention data, and Quality of Experience metrics to measure success.
• Collaborate with client media infrastructure, backend, Feeds, and machine learning ranking teams.
• Translate platform capabilities such as HLS streaming and personalized recommendations into seamless iOS features.
• Act as a strategic engineering partner to Product, Design, and Data Science.
• Help shape the product roadmap and align growth goals with iOS development best practices.
• Establish best practices for integrating media components and managing complex media lifecycles.
• Maintain app stability and rendering performance on constrained devices and networks.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on iOS experience.
• Proven experience developing user-facing native iOS applications at scale using Swift.
• Experience leading cross-team projects that solve tangible product or business problems.
• Strong understanding of experimentation, funnels, retention, and Quality of Experience metrics.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, prototype quickly, and make data-informed decisions.
• Clear and transparent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to peers and executive stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience optimizing video player performance or building feature-rich products on core media playback components.
• Experience with AVFoundation and VideoToolbox.
• Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and recommendation or feed systems is a strong plus.
