About the Role

The team works on complex distributed systems and infrastructure problems while building Kora as a managed service for clients that require high availability and performance at a low cost of ownership. This role focuses on building a highly available, performant, reliable, durable, scalable, and multi-tenant storage engine for Kora. You will drive technical solutions end to end, working with the team and key stakeholders to design, architect, and develop solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build the software underpinning the mission-critical Confluent Cloud storage engine.
• Design, develop, and operationalize high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient systems.
• Independently drive software projects through production delivery with a focus on quality.
• Identify root causes and solve complex underlying problems rather than treating symptoms.
• Troubleshoot issues and improve operations for a complex technical stack spanning all three clouds.
• Make decisions that benefit the team and company.
• Solve challenging customer problems and help customers become more successful.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 2+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
• Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the cloud.
• Solid understanding of systems operations, including disks, networks, and operating systems.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in teams.
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or another statically typed language.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong background in distributed storage systems or databases.
• Experience with resource management and quality of service (QoS).
• Experience with or knowledge of public clouds, including AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Interest in technical evangelism, such as speaking at technology conferences or writing blog posts about Kafka.
