About the Team

The Risk team builds trust across Stripe's financial infrastructure. It helps legitimate businesses access financial services, provides credit to creditworthy businesses, manages risk, prevents fraud and financial crime, manages credit exposure, meets regulatory and financial-partner obligations, and enables product teams to launch and grow products safely.

The team develops policies, standards, advanced AI, infrastructure, and product experiences to manage risk at scale across millions of businesses and a growing global product suite.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-leverage problems spanning teams, turn ambiguity into clear product and technical direction, and establish measurable outcomes.
• Lead major cross-Risk and cross-Stripe initiatives from initial shaping through delivery, adoption, and iteration.
• Lead changes to Risk's use of data and AI to identify and mitigate risk accurately at scale.
• Partner with engineering, data science, and machine learning leaders to shape architecture, data foundations, models, APIs, and product experiences.
• Help Stripe product teams build on Risk capabilities while guiding Risk teams toward coherent, reusable infrastructure and product decisions.
• Partner with Risk leadership to define multi-year strategy, identify important investments, and make investment and sequencing decisions.
• Build alignment among teams with different goals and constraints, resolve difficult trade-offs, and drive progress without formal authority.
• Coach and mentor product managers across Risk, strengthening product judgment, technical depth, strategic thinking, and execution.
• Advance product management practices across Stripe by improving problem definition, strategy development, technical partnership, and complex cross-organizational delivery.

Requirements

• Track record of identifying and delivering high-impact, transformational product or technical initiatives spanning multiple teams and organizations.
• Ability to clarify deeply ambiguous problems, set direction, and drive work through execution and adoption.
• Strong technical judgment across data, machine learning, AI, APIs, platforms, and system architecture.
• Experience partnering with senior engineering, data science, and product leaders to shape technical direction and product strategy.
• Strong product judgment across foundational infrastructure and user-facing experiences, with a focus on solving real user problems.
• Deep quantitative fluency and the ability to use data and causal reasoning to understand problems, evaluate trade-offs, and measure outcomes.
• Ability to influence senior leaders, build alignment across organizational boundaries, and drive execution without direct management authority.
• Experience mentoring and developing product managers and improving product thinking and execution across teams.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate strategies, influence technical and executive audiences, and explain complex topics clearly.
• High agency, intellectual honesty, curiosity, and a low-ego, hands-on working style.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineering background, preferably with machine learning experience.
• Experience applying AI and machine learning to complex, high-stakes problems at scale.
• Experience with fraud, credit, payments, financial services, trust and safety, or another domain involving complex decisions and asymmetric consequences.
• Experience working with globally distributed teams.
