Details

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Self-Hosted team, you will own the architecture of SentinelOne's self-hosted, on-premises Endpoint Protection platform across multiple teams. The platform is a distributed, mission-critical security system deployed inside customer-controlled enterprise, government, and regulated environments. You will set standards for high availability, scalability, and reliability on infrastructure operated by customers and influence the engineering roadmap for the product line.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the architecture of the self-hosted platform across backend services, data pipelines, control logic, and deployment topology.
  • Design and improve containerized microservices on bare metal, delivered as an appliance or OVA.
  • Establish standards for high availability and resilience in customer-controlled deployments, including clustering, replication, failover, consensus, leader election, and graceful degradation across single-node and multi-node topologies.
  • Drive infrastructure cost analysis and optimization.
  • Define scalability and capacity-planning strategies across a wide range of customer scales and hardware configurations.
  • Establish frameworks for performance, observability, and operational excellence in constrained and air-gapped environments.
  • Translate SaaS and cloud-native capabilities into on-premises architecture.
  • Refine complex, vaguely specified requirements into robust, future-proof, end-to-end designs.
  • Define coding patterns and standards spanning multiple teams.
  • Influence the engineering roadmap and drive medium-to-large initiatives across teams.
  • Mentor staff and senior engineers.
  • Act as a cross-team technical authority, reviewing and elevating the work of other senior engineers.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Approximately 8 or more years of related experience.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Go and/or Python.
  • Experience with technologies such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Docker, and Linux.
  • Extensive experience designing and delivering on-premises, self-hosted, or customer-deployed software.
  • Experience with packaging and lifecycle management for customer-controlled environments, including appliance or OVA deployments, bare-metal or containerized deployments, upgrades, and air-gapped or restricted networks.
  • Proven experience architecting distributed systems for high availability and fault tolerance in on-premises or customer-controlled deployments.
  • Expertise in replication, clustering, failover, and consensus or leader election.
  • Deep understanding of scalability and performance in on-premises deployments, including horizontal and vertical scaling, sharding or partitioning, load balancing, capacity planning, and evaluating technology trade-offs and costs across customer-controlled hardware and environments.
  • Ability to create efficient, robust, and future-proof end-to-end designs from complex, vaguely specified requirements.
  • Experience influencing a roadmap and leading multi-team designs.
  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
  • Experience with security products is a strong advantage.
