Details
We're looking for a Senior System Architect in the Platform Engineering department to shape how platform engineering is implemented across Platform Engineering & Operations. The role involves making architectural decisions that help engineers and application teams deliver secure, reliable, and compliant solutions faster while reducing infrastructure complexity.
The mission is to reduce cognitive overload for application teams by providing intuitive, automated, and well-orchestrated platform capabilities. The team builds and evolves strategic platforms that support the bank's technology landscape, enabling teams to focus on customer value instead of infrastructure complexity.
Responsibilities
- Design scalable, secure, and resilient platform solutions for enterprise-wide adoption.
- Create golden paths: approved, reusable patterns that simplify onboarding to and consumption of platforms.
- Drive architectural consistency across public- and private-cloud environments.
- Balance long-term strategic vision with pragmatic implementation approaches.
- Contribute to standards for platform automation, self-service capabilities, API integration, and platform consumption.
- Drive API-first platform design by defining principles for platform interfaces, integration, and consumption.
- Align enterprise architects, system architects, platform engineers, developers, security specialists, and senior management so architectural decisions can be implemented across the organisation.
- Present architectural visions, roadmaps, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Working Environment
The Platform Engineering department is part of the Platform Engineering & Operations domain and consists of three teams. Together, the teams make infrastructure platforms easier and faster for application teams to consume. They set standards for automation and API-based integration and co-create solutions with other platform teams in areas such as automation, APIs, and AI.
The role includes developing and implementing cloud technology, contributing expertise, acting as a sparring partner, and taking ownership of specific deliverables depending on the initiative.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a System, Solution, or Platform Architect, driving architecture across multiple teams, platforms, or domains, with more than five years of experience.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of enterprise-scale environments, including governance, security, compliance, and operational excellence, with more than five years of experience.
- Expertise in cloud and infrastructure architectures, including Azure, VMware, and hybrid cloud environments, with more than ten years of experience.
- Experience with platform engineering and automation, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, orchestration, and self-service platform capabilities, with more than five years of experience.
- Broad technical background in software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, reliability, scalability, observability, and resilience patterns, with more than ten years of experience.
- Passion for emerging technologies such as cloud-native solutions, AI, and digital sovereignty.
Benefits
- Gross monthly salary of €7,048 to €10,068 based on a 36- to 40-hour work week, including holiday allowance and a flexible benefit budget.
- Pension scheme.
- Flexible working, with working from home possible in consultation with the team and depending on the role.
- Ergonomic home office setup.
- Five weeks of vacation per year, plus two mandatory days off, with the option to purchase up to four additional weeks annually.
- Five additional days off for personal development or volunteer work.
- Annual development budget of €1,000, which can accumulate up to €3,000.
- Annual public transport pass providing free public transportation throughout the Netherlands for business and private use.
- Employment conditions governed by the ABN AMRO Collective Labour Agreement.
