About the Team

With Codex we92re building an AI software engineer you can pair with, delegate to, or ask to take on tasks proactively. The Codex team builds state-of-the-art AI systems that can write code, reason about software, and act as intelligent agents for developers and non-developers. The team operates across research, engineering, product, and infrastructure and owns the full lifecycle of experimentation, deployment, and iteration on novel coding capabilities.

Codex Enterprise builds the ecosystem, governance, and enterprise capabilities that help Codex spread across developers, teams, and organizations worldwide. The Enterprise Controls team owns systems that allow companies to safely deploy Codex while protecting sensitive code, data, and internal knowledge.

About the Role

As Codex adoption grows inside large organizations, customers trust Codex with proprietary codebases, internal documentation, customer data, and sensitive workflows. This role helps build the enterprise control plane to make Codex secure, governable, and trustworthy at scale. You will design and operate backend systems that give enterprise administrators visibility and control over how Codex is used across their organization.

You will work across identity, access, encryption, policy enforcement, auditability, and admin controls. Examples of work include systems to manage encryption keys, control which Codex capabilities are enabled, enforce organizational policies, and trace how data flows through Codex. This role owns systems end-to-end: architecture, implementation, and production operations, with a strong bias for security, reliability, quality, and velocity.

Responsibilities

  • Build backend systems that protect enterprise customer data, including encryption, key management, access controls, data isolation, retention controls, and secure data handling patterns.
  • Design and operate the Codex enterprise control plane to enable administrators to configure, enforce, and audit Codex usage across users, teams, projects, and environments.
  • Build policy and governance systems that allow enterprises to enable/disable specific Codex capabilities, define organizational constraints, and safely roll out new AI-powered workflows.
  • Develop reliable, observable, and scalable services across identity, authorization, configuration, audit logging, compliance, and enterprise administration.
  • Partner with product, security, infrastructure, GTM, and customer-facing teams to translate complex enterprise requirements into durable product and platform capabilities.
  • Help define what "enterprise-grade" means for AI software engineering systems as Codex is adopted by large organizations.

Requirements

  • Strong backend software engineering fundamentals and experience building production-grade distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Go, Rust, Java, or C++.
  • Experience with security, identity, authorization, encryption, key management, policy systems, or enterprise governance.
  • Understanding of enterprise foundations such as SSO/SAML/OIDC, SCIM, RBAC, audit logging, compliance controls, and data governance.
  • Comfortable building foundational platform capabilities and working across ambiguous technical and product requirements in fast-moving 0 1 environments.
  • Focus on reliability, security, observability, and customer trust.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Pre-tax accounts for Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, and commuter expenses.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.
  • Paid parental leave (up to 24 weeks for birth parents and 20 weeks for non-birthing parents); paid medical and caregiver leave (up to 8 weeks).
  • Paid time off: flexible PTO for exempt employees and up to 15 days annually for non-exempt employees.
  • 13+ paid company holidays and multiple coordinated company office closures; paid sick or safe time as required by law.
  • Mental health and wellness support and employer-paid basic life and disability coverage.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
  • Daily meals in offices and meal delivery credits as eligible.
  • Relocation support for eligible employees.
  • Additional taxable fringe benefits (e.g., charitable donation matching, wellness stipends) as may be provided.
