About the Team
Stripe Terminal helps Stripe users extend their online presence into the physical world. The Terminal team’s mission is to make it easy for businesses to accept in-person payments. Terminal supports use cases such as flagship retail experiences, pop-up stores, and mobile points of sale.
You’ll own the developer productivity platform for Stripe’s Terminal team, designing and building tooling and infrastructure that makes engineers across mobile, backend, and embedded systems faster and more effective.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain tools, libraries, and infrastructure that improve the productivity of engineers across mobile, backend, and embedded systems.
- Collaborate closely with mobile engineers to understand their workflows and pain points and translate them into practical short-term and long-term solutions.
- Contribute to and improve build, CI/CD, and test automation systems for SDKs, Android applications, and firmware.
- Work with key stakeholders to prioritize work, balance competing needs, and ensure solutions integrate cleanly into existing workflows.
- Own projects end to end, from problem discovery and design through implementation, rollout, and ongoing operation.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and documentation to maintain a high bar for code quality, reliability, and developer experience.
- Mentor other engineers in build, test, and release best practices.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 6 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful backend systems experience and experience with Android/mobile or embedded/firmware development.
- Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining production systems or developer tooling.
- Understanding of how to build scalable, reliable, and observable services, pipelines, or tooling.
- Experience owning projects from design through implementation, rollout, and ongoing support.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment involving multiple stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in one or more of Kotlin, Java, or Go.
- Experience building tools or platforms that improve developer productivity, with empathy for internal developer users.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and pipelines such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions, as well as modern build systems.
- Experience designing and maintaining automated testing infrastructure, including integration or end-to-end tests, test orchestration, and reducing test flakiness.
- Experience with Android build and test tooling such as Gradle, emulators, and device farms, or with firmware build pipelines.
- Experience in payments, point-of-sale, or hardware-integrated systems is a plus.
