Details
The developer produces quality technical solutions to problems outlined by the Engineering Manager and Product Owner. The role works within a development team and involves writing high-quality test and production code with limited supervision. The developer is expected to apply appropriate design patterns and follow engineering best practices such as SOLID and DRY with minimal support.
The position is described as a junior-level role, with responsibility for working on concrete topics as part of the team. Delivery may be slower than that of a core developer due to less experience and expertise in certain technologies and lower commercial awareness.
Responsibilities
Building Software Applications
- Build software applications using relevant development languages, systems, services, and tools.
- Write readable and reusable code using standard patterns and libraries.
- Refactor and simplify code by introducing design patterns when appropriate.
- Ensure application quality through standard testing techniques and methods aligned with the test strategy.
- Maintain data security, integrity, and quality according to company standards and best practices.
End-to-End System Ownership
- Monitor application health and performance, define and monitor relevant metrics, and take action when thresholds are violated.
- Reduce business continuity risks and bus factor through appropriate practices, tools, documentation, runbooks, and OpDocs.
- Use continuous delivery and experimentation frameworks to reduce risk and obtain customer feedback.
- Independently manage applications or services through deployment and production operations.
Software Systems Design
- Evaluate architecture solutions based on cost, business requirements, technology requirements, and emerging technologies.
- Describe the implications of changing or adding systems by maintaining a broad understanding of infrastructure and architecture.
- Support business growth and accelerated software development through prototyping, spiking, vendor evaluation, and engineering standards.
- Design adaptable solutions that meet current and future business requirements.
Technical Incident Management
- Resolve live production issues and mitigate customer impact within service-level agreements.
- Improve system reliability through root cause analysis and long-term solutions.
- Track incidents and contribute to postmortem processes.
Critical Thinking and Quality Improvement
- Identify patterns and underlying issues in complex situations and develop solutions using logical and analytical thinking.
- Evaluate ideas, plans, and solutions objectively and propose SMART improvements.
- Identify opportunities for process, system, and structural improvements, including performance gains.
- Design and implement improved processes, standards, and practices.
- Maintain data security, integrity, and quality while guiding more junior team members in this area.
Communication and Collaboration
- Deliver clear, well-structured information using suitable communication methods and language for the audience.
- Collaborate effectively, communicate ideas clearly, remain adaptable, and practice active listening.
- Ask relevant follow-up questions to properly understand others' input.
