Details

Stripe is a technology company focused on improving the conditions for economic growth and prosperity by building programmable financial infrastructure. Stripe maintains reliable APIs, develops financial infrastructure, and works on risk and fraud systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a real member of the assigned team by participating in team discussions, decisions, and the technical design process.
  • Write production software with meaningful impact on Stripe's business and users.
  • Give and receive technical feedback through code reviews and design discussions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to seek and incorporate feedback.
  • Learn quickly by asking effective questions, working with the intern manager and teammates, communicating work status clearly, and using the latest AI tooling.
  • Work on projects across Stripe's stack, including areas such as payments, anomaly detection, fraud controls, payouts, pricing, and merchant checkout.

Requirements

  • Strong fundamental understanding of computer science through pursuit of a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Programming experience through side projects or coursework. Stripe primarily uses Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Go, and Scala; candidates should be able to learn new languages when they have strong fundamentals and general knowledge.
  • Experience from previous internships or other multi-person projects, including open-source contributions, demonstrating the ability to evaluate and receive feedback from mentors, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems through independent research and collaboration with mentors or subject-matter experts.
  • Ability to use AI tools to accelerate development while applying critical thinking and professional judgment to review, refine, and validate outputs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of university education or equivalent work experience.
  • Specialized knowledge in one or more areas, such as frontend, backend, infrastructure, or other technologies, combined with general technical skills and knowledge.
  • Experience writing high-quality pull requests with good test coverage and completing projects with minimal defects.
  • Familiarity with navigating and managing work in new codebases containing multiple languages.
  • Clear written communication skills and the ability to explain work to stakeholders, team members, and colleagues.

The internship program is competitive, with high expectations. Interns own problems end to end with support from managers and teammates and contribute software to Stripe's production codebase.
