Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. The Operator Tooling team builds software that helps Stripe’s operations teams reduce manual processes and manage their work more effectively by replacing spreadsheets, unstructured email chains, and repetitive tasks with reliable tools and integrations.

Responsibilities

Build and improve the platforms used by Stripe’s operations teams to manage their work.
Work across backend systems to turn complex operational needs into reliable tools and integrations.
Partner directly with internal users to understand workflows and improve their experience.
Own problems end to end, managing complexity and working directly with stakeholders to understand business impact, reliability, and operability.
Contribute to the product roadmap and help shape the team’s vision and strategy.
Uphold high standards for engineering and product quality.
Mentor newer team members and help them develop their engineering skills.
Work with stakeholders across Stripe to understand competing needs and balance priorities.

Requirements

3+ years of software engineering experience.
Comfort working across backend systems and understanding the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through testing and deployment.
Ability to write high-quality, thoroughly tested code with clear documentation and appropriate production observability.
Familiarity with engineering, security, and design best practices.
Empathy for internal and external users and a commitment to improving their experience.
Proven ability to integrate different services and processes, including those not previously encountered.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Ruby, Java, Python, or Go. General engineering skills are valued more than knowledge of a particular language or framework, and languages can be learned on the job.
Knowledge of distributed systems patterns and principles.
