Details

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to help evolve Grafana into a fully multi-tenant, scalable observability app platform for OSS and proprietary Cloud apps. The role focuses on SaaS platforms at scale, distributed systems, and safely refactoring Grafana's core architecture while avoiding service disruptions.

Responsibilities

Code new features, enhance the operational experience of developed systems, and iteratively improve them based on production insights.
Author, contribute to, and review design documents.
Take an active role in shaping the roadmap.
Mentor and support other team members.
Collaborate with different teams across the organization and align work with other squads and external stakeholders.
Own the customer experience by participating in weekday 12-hour x 5-day and separate weekend 24-hour x 2-day on-call rotations.
Use modern AI coding assistants for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups, supported by strong code review and quality standards.

Requirements

Strong coding skills and operational experience, including responsibility for operating software you have built.
Experience working on SaaS platforms and handling distributed systems challenges such as scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work across teams, communicate plans transparently, engage stakeholders, and incorporate feedback.
Pragmatic approach, with the ability to prioritize progress over perfection and handle ambiguity.
Familiarity with Golang or enthusiasm for learning the language.

The role is open to candidates located in the UK, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Ireland only. In Germany, the compensation range is €109,709–€131,651, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
