Details
Anthropic is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Claude.ai team and build the consumer web application. This product engineering role focuses on creating user-facing interfaces and interactions that make Claude enjoyable and reliable to use. You will work closely with designers and product managers to bring features from concept to production, with a strong focus on user experience, performance, responsiveness, and reliability.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for Claude.ai and its features.
- Build and ship user-facing features for Claude.ai's web experience.
- Own the quality bar for the product's look and feel, including latency, responsiveness, and reliability.
- Advocate for user experience and design considerations early in the development process.
- Collaborate with product managers to understand user needs, shape feature scope, and make informed tradeoffs.
- Iterate quickly based on user feedback and internal testing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building consumer-facing web products, with a strong emphasis on UI quality and user experience.
- Proficiency in React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- Experience with Node.js on the backend.
- Strong understanding of user experience, page-load performance, latency, responsiveness, and reliability across devices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with designers and product managers.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift and rapid delivery is important.
- Willingness to take on work beyond the formal job description when needed.
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is the minimum education requirement. Relevant coursework, training, or professional experience may demonstrate the required field of study.
Strong candidates may also have experience with performance optimization for consumer web applications, including profiling, reducing bundle size, improving rendering performance, and analyzing end-to-end latency; responsive layouts across screen sizes and devices; real-time or streaming interactions such as chat interfaces and live updates; and fast-moving consumer product environments.
Formal certifications or education credentials are not required if the candidate otherwise has the necessary skills.
Compensation
The annual salary range is $320,000–$405,000 USD.
