Details
Airbnb Payments builds and operates a global payments platform that processes transactions in 191 countries and 75 currencies. The Payments Compliance team develops systems that help Airbnb meet regulatory requirements, including compliance experiences, information collection and management, screening of individuals and businesses, and continuous auditing of compliance controls.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and refinement of systems powering payments compliance.
- Establish technical direction and architectural decisions for compliance systems.
- Design and build service-oriented, configurable, auditable, highly available, efficient systems that leverage existing Airbnb capabilities.
- Develop systems, APIs, experiences, and tools that implement controls required by regulations around the world.
- Work with technical leaders and engineering teams across Airbnb.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Operations, and other cross-functional partners in a globally distributed organization.
- Lead and mentor engineers within and outside the immediate team.
- Advance Airbnb’s engineering processes and technical foundations.
- Drive systemic improvements to streamline development, reduce toil, and improve technical quality and operational excellence.
- Lead the technical direction for compliance experiences, regulatory screening, and auditing of compliance controls.
Requirements
- 9+ years of industry experience in a fast-paced technology environment.
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience leading a team responsible for production systems and on-call operations.
- Hands-on experience leading project teams and setting technical direction and strategy.
- Proficiency in one or more back-end server languages, such as Java, Ruby, Go, or C++.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React.
- Exposure to architectural patterns for high-scale web and data applications.
- Long-term, future-focused approach to designing systems for evolving regulatory requirements.
- End-to-end ownership that transcends team boundaries.
- Prior knowledge of regulatory compliance standards and experience implementing related controls is a plus.
Work Location
This position is remote eligible in the United States. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with the manager. Employees must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
Compensation
The base pay range is $212,000–$265,000 USD per year. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
