Bloomberg’s Product Documentation and User Assistance group is seeking a technical writer to create user assistance materials for financial-market products. The role partners with Product, Technology, UX, Customer Support, and Engineering teams to produce API documentation for Bloomberg’s developer clients.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and iterate on client-facing API documentation for an evolving product.
  • Create quick starts, conceptual explanations, tutorials, installation guides, and technical specifications.
  • Define the scope and direction of documentation deliverables.
  • Organize content strategically so essential information is easy for readers to consume.
  • Follow style guidelines for standard deliverables and extend them creatively for bespoke content.
  • Independently manage a high volume of projects with variable timelines and multiple stakeholders.
  • Help establish authoring requirements for CMS and authoring tools developed by Engineering.
  • Use API experience to improve documentation styles, processes, tools, and the team’s use of artificial intelligence.
  • Maintain large documentation sets and establish new content structures.
  • Collaborate with business specialists, customer support, development teams, senior management, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of technical writing experience for a developer audience, including API documentation.
  • Deep knowledge of API documentation best practices.
  • Ability to read and understand widely used programming languages, preferably Python, and work with, test, and validate code samples.
  • Strong and flexible writing skills for client audiences, with the ability to use conversational or formal tones as appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate with both developers and business decision-makers through technical content and benefit-focused materials.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to manage and organize multiple projects with variable timelines.
  • Proven success interacting with staff and management at all levels.
  • Motivation to develop knowledge and skills across technical and financial domains.
  • Experience with software development involving APIs is desirable.
  • Editing experience is desirable.
  • Demonstrated initiative in innovating and implementing workflow, process, and technical solutions is desirable.
  • Aptitude for visual information design and image production is desirable.
  • Experience with DITA, HTML, or other online authoring tools is desirable.
  • Experience with Git workflows and writing documentation in Markdown is desirable.
  • Working understanding of financial markets is desirable.
  • Applicants should provide 2–3 writing samples.
